John Cena was obviously going to win given that it was a popularity contest. If he was nominated for best beard he probably would have won it too. The problem is simply that it was fan voted for. Could you imagine if they opened up the Oscars for fan voting?
He is certainly the (Most Popular) Superstar of the Year, at least in the demographic that was voting. No way is he the (Most Successful) Superstar of the Year.
Anyway this argument is somewhat pointless given the nature of what it is - an awards night for a professional wrestling company

I have something resembling actual disdain for people who think the results were fixed. Its the same hardcore internet fans deluding themselves into thinking that Cena isn't as popular as he is bs we deal with all the time. Of COURSE Cena won Superstar of the year. The fans were voting. It doesn't matter who kayfabe deserved it Cena is the most popular regular roster member right now so if he gets put into a category like that he will win it. So those fans are just idiots then?

I'm pretty sure it's just a troll. he only ever seems to say things just for the sake of being contrary. Meaning that because my opinion isn't the same as most, I'm automatically a troll? Right. Gotcha.I actually wanted to say something about this, but it's actually more prevalent than you'd think.

Bryan really should have been nominated. Even Kane I would have as a nominee over Sheamus and Big Show based on how entertaining he's been this year. Condescending, much? We're not electing a head of state here. This is a wrestling poll. It's not serious business. There are no qualifiers for "WWE Superstar of the Year". Not everyone has to vote the same way as you. Some people might vote for who they've found most entertaining to watch this year. Some people might vote for who had the biggest kayfabe achievements this year. For some people it might have been a process of elimination where they didn't enjoy watching 2 or 3 of the choices this year and therefore chose the other by default. For instance, if I was that way inclined to download the WWE app and vote in this thing (I'm not) I would have voted Cena because a) My first choice Daniel Bryan wasn't an option and b) I've found Sheamus and Punk excruciating to watch this year and while I've enjoyed Big Show more in recent months he didn't have my favorite match (Cena/Lesnar) and storyline (Cena/Kane/Ryder/Eve) of the year like Cena did.

I have a problem with people voting for popularity sake, in any kind of election. I hate seeing someone win something, when someone else is far more qualified on every level you could possibly quantify, other than appeal. I'm not counting you in that, because you at least gave a well-thought-out reasoning for your choice. But we all know, if WWE's Facebook page or Youtube comments are any indicator, that A LOT of people are, in fact, emotionally-driven imbeciles, who cannot rationally explain why they've came to a conclusion, other than "I love John Cena!" or "I hate John Cena!" My issue was just in the likely reality of the situation; that many would simply vote for Cena regardless, even if he lost every match, and did nothing entertaining. I hate that it is a popularity contest, and know that this line of idiotic thinking translates into the real world as well. And that makes voting irrelevant.

It's kind of awesome that people are outraged over a Slammy.
Anyway though, it was the start of a really great segment.

Figured it was just an excuse to have Punk cut a ranting promo about it.
Slammys - SRS business.

Cena never lost his money in the bank cash in. He won his match.

Cena could lose every match he had in a 12 mo period and he would still win this thing. Why even bother having voting in WWE?

Next year, they should just go back the old format and let Vince decides who wins for storyline purposes since people are not liking the results. Like I said in another thread, why are people upset about the results of a virtually meaningless award? The only person who made winning a Slammy matter was Owen Hart.

I don't think people think the award has "meaning", so much as there's really no logical way to say Cena had a better year than most of the guy's involved in the voting. That's where the disdain is coming from.

Like someone said, the voting results is just like for the Pro Bowl. Don't matter what you did during the season. What matters if people like you enough to vote you in.

If only this was seen on RAW. It might have saved a few people from voting incorrectly.

It sounds douchier than I actually intended it to, but it's true. Even the most ardent Cena fan should realize that this was arguably his worst year ever. To vote him Superstar of the Year is completely absurd on every quantifiable level other than base popularity -- which, if that was the intention, should have been the name of the award in the first place. If a Babyface *had* to win, it should have at least been Sheamus. He might not be everyone's cup of TV, but he won the Rumble, had a long reign, and is arguably this year's TV wrestling MVP. He hasn't had ANY bad matches. At all. He's kind of like Bret in '92/93. That said, I'm a firm believer that you should always vote for who deserves it/ is most qualified, not just someone you like better. To vote any other way is why democracy is somewhat broken.
