So I was pondering, since the WWE has AJ Lee and she seems to be the Diva that they're really banking on, maybe TNA should go in a similar direction and get their own spunky and super cute nerd chick that can give the Knockouts an edge. This of course could be Portia Perez. She could be TNA's answer to AJ Lee. There have been comparisons to the both of them in that they are both not all plastic surgeried up and they appeal to the smark audience with their wrestling abilities yet have a total nerdy hotness to them that average Johnny Q. Audience member likes. Also their combined cuteness harnessed as an energy source could power a small southwestern town. They wouldn't have to have the exact same gimmicks, but maybe just their surface similarities would be enough to satiate audiences and help boost the Knockouts, as Portia would be used more as an active competitor. Maybe she could like a combo of AJ and Kaitlyn. AJ in the physical similarities, Kaitlyn in the competitor sense. But what say you?

I think one AJ Lee is bad enough. She's one of the reasons I'm not watching WWE in the first place.

I don't know. How much more business is WWE doing now with AJ as a major character?

Yeah. When I read the thread title, I was going to go look for an appropriate "NO!" reaction, but this one will work. Portia Perez is terrible.

TNA already has enough Knockouts they're not using, so why hire another not to do anything.

I'm pretty sure Banjo's Portia/AJ comparison was just in terms of body type/untraditional demeanor and not in terms of what kind of character (crazy, attention starved sexpot) Portia should have in TNA, so I'm not sure where the negative reactions are coming from.

I believe she already tried out for TNA and they turned her down unfortunately.

If they wanted the geek girl style, they'd hire Leva Bates.
They turned down Sara Del Rey, they would turn down Portia Perez. Hell, they turned down Lufisto.
They would probably hire Nicole Mathews before Portia Perez, based on looks alone.

Because of the overload of fandom she receives does get to the point of ad nauseum. I got no horse in the race so I don't care but others cringe at the very mention or sight of her. No, She is flavor of the month and someone for all the geeky smarks to go crazy for. She has been an indy favorite for years so she's no flavor of the month. I don't see her as a AJ Lee type. More of a Zooey Deschanel type.

I don't know that much about Portia, aside from the fact that a lot of people seem to find her irresistibly attractive which I just don't see at all. That being said I have a seen a few of her matches and she is a passable wrestler but if she goes down the AJ Lee route then I really don't want her to come to Impact. AJ is the worst thing about WWE at the minute, don't do it to TNA too.

From the sound of your post, you don't appear to have seen much Portia Perez.

Portia's more of a dark, miserable character than peppy like AJ Lee. They're actually polar opposites.

Portia Perez isn't really much like AJ Lee at all. her character's basically that she's a total bitch.
Leva Bates on the other hand...

No. And I usually like Portia, but there's nothing she brings to the table that would make her a must-sign by TNA. She's a solid hand on the indy scene, and she's entertaining in that particular environment, but that's about it. There would be much more upside in signing Nicole Matthews (despite her "dark" gimmick of late... i'm not a fan), or Leva Bates (who'd have more of a crossover appeal, à la AJ).
