It is a hard movie to understand because I don't get the plot to it. They do broadcast the first "Twilight" movie nowadays on The FX Channel, but it is just a dull film to me. What is so great about Twilight and the Twilight Series? I watched three of the four Twilight films and I still don't get it. I don't hate the movies but they aren't my favorite Vampire films. I guess it is a generational thing. Is the appeal about the books, the movies, or the actors? I don't get it.

1- Angsty self-obsessed "First World Problems" girls identify with the lead character
2- The idea of an impossibly beautiful but dangerous boyfriend who can protect you and devotes every moment of his existence to you appeals to some girls and women. More so when you add a best friend who shares similar traits
3- Vampires in particular have always been appealing to an audience, particularly the sexual aspects of the mythology

My ex-GF put it best, I think: The book is basically porn (not literal porn) for girls/ immature women, wherein attractive, powerful supernatural males find an ordinary, boring girl irresistible, despite her bringing nothing to the table. It's never explained why these two dudes would even want Bella, nor is it ever shown in the writing that she's even worth it on any level. They love her because. It's shallow fantasy escapism. As for the movies -- it transcends that into finding the actors appealing as well. But at its root it's still the same draw, even if the girls don't really realize it.

That summed up what I was going to say more succinctly than I ever could.

I have absolutely no idea. They are poorly written, poorly acted, poorly directed trash.

It appeals to girls who want to tame "bad boys.

Even Robert Pattinson suspects that Twilight was merely a brief one-chapter sexual fantasy that at most was meant to be shared between the author and her sister

The movies would have been better if Alice was in them more.

I don't know. Teenagers like all sorts of silly stuff each generation. Eventually they grow out of it.
I've only seen the first one. Not my thing but it wasn't the worst movie I've ever seen.

There could have been a good story crafted out of Twilight, but Stephanie Meyer just didn't know how to tell it. As popular as it might be, the messages she sends to the audience are awful.

Just so, so many inconsistencies and inaccuracies with the films. The most annoying part is the lead, Bella. She is worse than Peach in being a danzel in distress. Just watch Nostalgia Critic's Top 10 dumb***** in distress...

Twilight should have ended with a "St Elsewhere" conclusion. It's all in Bella's head. It's the one ending that makes some sort of sense. A boring anti-social girl who is somehow very popular at school. Two handsome men fight for her affections, despite her being boring and miserable and by her own admission "plain looking". She lives in a world of mythical beings and ends up with superpowers. The last page of the last Twilight book should have been like that episode of Deep Space Nine where Sisko is in an asylum writing the episode of Deep Space Nine that he's currently in, on the walls.

It's just a fantasy, like Tenchi Muyo. I'm not sure why it receives such over-the-top hatred and pearl-clutching. I don't think it's particularly well done, but it doesn't offend me on a deeply personal and social level.

Dunno, a lot of fans of the book hated the film interpretations though.
