He tries way too hard and it's glaringly obvious. I get that he wants to bring back that JR "BAH GAWD!" excitement, but with JR it felt natural so it was OK, with Striker it feels forced and as such became obnoxious.

I like him cuz it seemed like he really wanted to put the product over as exciting in a way other than yelling "OOOOH MYY", but he got really annoying at times. I hated when he worked with Cole and King and they just ignored him or made him sound like an idiot when it seemed like he's the only one who knew what he was talking about. Agreed. Plus, some of his moments on PPV were really cringeworthy. Whenever I watch the '11 Rumble, I usually skip over most of the time Booker was in there. And lest we forget, "CENA'S FREE!!!"

I found Striker to be better than anyone they have doing commentary right now other than maybe Regal and JBL. But then again, the little touches that those guys give are part of what actually makes wrestling fun.

I found him less irritating than JBL. Spouted the same 5 catchphrases every 15 minutes. Spent more time yelling at Josh Matthews for trying to call a match than offering any kind of insight into the people in the ring.

When it wasn't PPV, he was better. I think he just had big nerves going during the big events.

as a commentator. I was watching the Top 50 moves dvd on netflix and man oh man is he annoying. Just trying way too hard to sound credible and smart. It's like he's taking the whole "be a story teller, not a sports commentator" thing we heard about Joey styles and overcompensating. This exactly. Any of those types of countdowns he is on, like the Smackdown 10th anniversary DVD or the one you mentioned, are made unwatchable because of Striker. He also shows up on the new nWo documentary, and he sounded very out of place and desperate to sound smart. Everyone else had something interesting to contribute, Striker contributed obnoxiousness. I also couldn't stomach him on commentary. I appreciate the fact that he would get excited about the product, but it seemed everything he said was his pathetic attempt to get a sound byte in that would be used in the pre-match video package on the ppv.

I did like the "Dreadlocked Demolition Man" nickname for Tyler Reks.

I didnt like him coming up with nicknames for every guy, especially when they had to be alliterations. F-king teachers. Those were the jokes.

I actually think that Matt Striker had the right idea with giving everyone a nickname. WWE should've caught on to that. This is a little off-topic, but I think that if everyone had a nickname, it would be a nice compromise. Wrestlers can use their real names or the names that originally made them famous AND WWE has something they can trademark.

Years back, Striker was praised for his smark drenched commentary by a large number of people on the net. All it took for was random nicknames and miscues for the flock to abandon him.

I still love Striker! And I would take him over current day Cole and King every day of the week. Even in the times where he is a little over bearing, Striker always managed to keep the commentary on the wrestlers in the ring and the current story.
IMO, I would love to see a Striker, Regal and Punk commentary desk!

Yeah, I'd much rather have overly enthusiastic at the commentator's desk than the complete drivel spouted by Cole and King nowadays. Striker should tone it down a bit sure, but I don't see how having someone who actually cares about the product commentating being a bad thing.

I think he got a bad deal. He was green, but with a little instruction, he could've been really good. It didn't help matters when Lawler and Cole treated him like he was some idiot with no knowledge of pro wrestling. They were completely unprofessional at every Pay-Per-View they called with him. I think it was to be expected that he was going to have a few mistakes but his are more forgivable than guys with over a decade of experience messing up the simplest things every week.

He was awesome on Smackdown in 2010. Put over the wrestling in the ring, noted the strategies that they were using, pointing out the strengths of each wrestler, and made the matches seem better as a result. Far better than the inane banter of Lawler. And JBL makes just as many smarky references, they're just all historical rather than indy-based.

^That's his Achilles heel. I'm a Striker fan, but he's a mixed bag commentator. While he knows a great deal of things about wrestling (and has a memory far better than Cole and especially his arch nemesis Jerry Lawler), he'd routinely force nicknames on people that were just stupid, and then he'd get facts wrong and sometimes would spout out incredibly pointless things that came off as him trying too hard. The guy just needed to refocus himself, but by RR '11, they had it with him. Striker's a knowledgeable guy, and I enjoy him more than Josh Matthews, but I can see why they brought him down to pre-show/Superstars commentator and the occasional interviewer. Hopefully he and Scott can get a better gig in the future.

He's symptomatic of all WWE commentators who ironically talk too much. Instead of reacting to a big move by yelling "OHHHHHHHHHHHHHH dear god!" they'll say something like "what a hellacious act of carnage in the squared circle. The impact of that on the cranium came right from the pit of hell"
I go back to comparing the "sports announcer" type commentary of Gorilla/Jesse, to the Cole/Matthews etc...type announcing today
