Because.
- Tagalong kid characters that at least have the courtesy to be entertaining (I can even deal with them being klutzy screwups, so long as they're not standing around doing next to nothing) - "Knight templar" villains that are convinced they're on the side of good - Awkward, "adorkable" protagonists - Heroes that act chipper/cool on the outside, but are actually bottling up a ton of angst - Totally amoral, cartoonishly sadistic villains - Any sitcom dad that's written to be relatively smart - Unabashed boy scout heroes that are uncomfortable with bending rules - Female characters written to be hyperactive, energetic and/or dense, as many male heroes often are - Anytime a comic relief character shows a hidden badass side

The good guy/gal with the comically oversized weapon.
"I'm too old for this S#($" characters. Which also includes "I'm going to retire soon" people.
The guy with the really awesome gun/sword that dies too early and only gets to use said weapon for like 10 seconds.

I have too many to list so I'll keep it short for now:
- Tsundere characters - Shrinking violets(bonus if they have a hidden badass side ala Hinata in Naruto) - Lazy bastards who can kick all kinds of ass when they manage to give a minuscule amount of f***(Shikamaru from Naruto and his ilk) - Grand badass over the top villains(Aizen from Bleach is my favorite character in that series)

-badass anti-heroes (Eg. Cable, Machete, the entire cast of The Authority) -badass villains who are crafty but not afraid to get their hands dirty (Magneto, Dr. Doom, Bane) -snarky fun-personified heroes (Spider-man, She-Hulk, Robin) -Complete Monster-types who are so over-the-top that they're hilarious (Homelander from The Boys, The Joker, Jack O'Lantern from the new Venom series) -Complete Monsters who are legitimately compelling and scary (Anton Chigurh, Luca Blight, Johann Liebert)

-Tsundre characters
-Single-minded ambitious anti-hero/villians.
- The hero's friend who fights when he has to knowing full well he's about to get his ass kicked.
-The villain who does evil things simply because they're evil and they have way too much fun being evil.
-The Martial Pacifist. It's especially fun to see what exactly pushes them over the edge.
-The hero who likes the thrill and adrenaline of the battle as much, if not more, than being a hero for any moral reason.

When it comes to villains, I've always been partial to "The Dragon", the figure who's basically the main villain's right arm, his chief warrior, and is sometimes a stronger warrior than the main villain actually is. Darth Vader, obviously, is the Emperor's "Dragon".
Unfortunately too often this character type is either underutilized, or is turned good at some point just to appease fanbases. Nothing against characters who turn good, but I hate feeling like it's a given that it'll happen.

Cowardly heroes (Courage the Cowardly Dog, Volstagg, etc.) Egomaniac villains (Lex Luthor, Serpentor, etc.) Shapeshifters with personality (Zartan, Clayface, etc.) Dumb, lovable heroes (Luanne Platter [easy to love AND hate, really] Woody Boyd, etc.)

after playing Lollipop Chainsaw again for the 5 millionth time I'm adding characters like Zed who seem to only speak in shouted obscenities to the point where it's hilarious. you'd think I'd get tired of Jimmy Urine screeching "COCKSUCKER" at me after the 5th time but it never stops being funny.

Large hams, especially if they're villains. I never tire of them.
I especially love Tim Curry's character in Red Alert 3 (I'd use his actual name but let's face it, he's more recognizable as "Tim Curry's character").

When it comes to heroes, I prefer the ones who are nice guys, but will not hesitate to hurt (if not outright kill) bad guys who think they can do as they please, which is probably why I like Fist of the North Star so much, because Kenshiro is always bringing bullyish bad guys to a painful end they no doubt deserve,, all the while staying good and never going out of line.
When it comes to the bad guys, I prefer the one's who are smart and calculating, the ones who don't bother breaking the hero and instead actively seek ways to bring said hero down. I also like those who have a lot of honor, despite being the bad guy, and those who don't approve of the psycho bad guy and aren't afraid to team up with the other heroes if it means beating a greater threat. I prefer the ones who have a good heart despite their evil ways. Anti-villains, if you will.

Also, I mark for "closer to earth" female characters that can be flawed, and don't make everyone around them look inferior or dumber (see: Sally Acorn).

I also have a thing for tomboyish female characters, as long as the writers don't beat you over the head about how tough she is and how she does all manly things better than any man (not to mention when they do that, they usually still end up making her require the help of the nearest male character).
A good example would be Lara Croft, at least back when Core Design was making the games. She really felt like a badass who happened to be female, and not just a cardboard cutout made out of a "strong independent female character" checklist.

Yeah, that's why I prefer the LTS Lola Bunny to the Space Jam Lola. Don't get me wrong, Space Jam is an awesome movie, but Lola there felt like an "independent girl" stereotype. On the note of LTS Lola, yes, I do enjoy manic pixie girls under certain circumstances. Ellen Ripley would be another example of a tomboy badass girl done properly.

Heroes who are tended to be portrayed as adventurous, though they have a tremendous amount of guilt/angst underneath (Spiderman, Tim Drake and Dick Grayson Robins, ect)
Cartoonishly evil villains who are evil because they love being evil (prequels Palpatine, 1980's Skeletor)
Big dumb muscle villains who aren't really the most competent or lethal, but still a big headache for the heroes (Marvel's Rhino, 1980's Beastman)
"Evil versions" of heroic characters (Faker, Bizarro, Eddie Brock Venom, Professor Zoom, ect)
Happy-go-lucky swashbuckler type adventurous heroes (Dragon Age II's Varric, Marvel's Tigra)
Mega ungodly powerful heroes with a huge touch of class and noble spirit who strive to do good and be inspirational to others (Superman, Thor, 1980's He-man)

Affably evil villain Crazed survivalist. Always find them fun The eccentric mad scientist. Love any character in the shape of Doc Brown The heroes journey hero. As long as their character development is believable, I always like the normal guy achieving greatness type character like Luke Skywalker and Frodo Baggins. Knight Templar Villain Alpha bitch The cute bruiser like Molly Hayes Cowardly hero Not a character type, more of a group type but I always find myself being a fan of the Red Coat Army

As far as bad guys, I always like the ones who seem bad because they've got a completely foreign code of morals, like Mab in the Dresden Files.
