Ever since Christian randomly won the belt off of Cody, it has been hotshotted a few times with no real significant buildup or storylines.
It's become the "HERE, TAKE THIS SO YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO DO" title.

It's been like that for years though. Even during Cody's reign, it was just a prop around his waist that he occasionally defended and had nothing to do with most of his feuds.

It's funny cause Christian started off with a promising reign. Defeated a random heel midcarder each week, defended the title regularly, and lost it in a dignified way.
Then Miz held it, looked good for a bit but around SummerSlam the title just went downhill and he gave it to Kofi who does nothing with it.

I'd actually say it was when Cody won the belt back. Show actually had a decent moment winning the title at IC at Wrestlemania, then they gave it back to Rhodes for some reason, turned Show heel and having done nothing big with the belt since.

The IC Championship killed the IC Championship. The only thing it had going for it was that it was doing better than the US Championship, but Cesaro is building that title up.

OK I may have overdone it with the title, I'm just pointing out that Christian was the wrong gay...guy, the wrong guy at the wrong place, at the wrong time.
Cody made it so important again, and then it went back to being just kind of there once Christian ran with it.

Cody made it so important again, and then it went back to being just kind of there once Christian ran with it. I don't know about making it important. All he really did was have a long reign and change what the belt was. It just depends on who holds it at this point. If Ryback won it from Miz it'd probably be a different story. |

Outside of debuting the new look, Cody looked like any other heel midcard champ of the past few years. We're supposed to buy them as oh so aggressive against the likes of Santino and Ryder, but when faced with a real threat (Orton in Cody's case), the champ just loses clean in a bunch of non-title matches. |
