Thank god I'm not the only one who actually liked Squall, emoness and all I really don't see how Squall is emo. Not that I have anything against Emos, I just don't see how he fits the bill.

I liked Cait Sith and Yuffie. Both were fun characters and Yuffie's sidequest offered a fair challenge to the game.
Still don't care for the majority of the FF9 cast though.

Tidus.
Put yourselves in his shoes: 17 years old with a missing (abusive) father and a dead mother. You watch your home city be destroyed by a large ball of water. You meet up with a family friend who gives you a weapon and tells you to fight. Then after all of that, you're (assumed at the time) sent 1000 years into the future where your home town is destroyed and you have no way of getting back.
I'd be a little whiny and childish myself.

Not to mention that after finding out a horrifying fact about himself 2/3rds through the game, he took it better than one might expect.

Vanille. Ok I don't like her character, or her voice. I just like looking at her.

Hope, Squall, Tidus, and Yuna though i didnt know anyone disliked her. I'm pretty surprised to find Yuna has a hatedom. Most of the comments about her I heard were along the lines of "why does the game insist that Tidus is the hero? Yuna is clearly more important and accomplishes more important things!" Heck, even Spoony got pissed that Tidus insisted it was his story when it was clearly Yuna's. I don't think anyone dislikes X Yuna, it's X-2 Yuna where the problems arise. It begins and ends with Squall for me.

Maybe it's just bad memory, but I never saw Tidus as whiny. I thought he was egotistical and stupid, but I thought he was borderline Cena-esque in how little things seemed to bother him aside from Yuna and Seymore. Hope was whiny, but it's a situation where I completely sympathize with him.

I forgot every character from V. I don't think they're hated, mostly forgotten, though they do deserve better. Didn't Faris end up obtaining a rather large fandom, though?

The GBA version of the game is glorious.
Defeating a "giant enemy crab" and hitting its weak spot for "massive damage", telling it that it "got served" and basically any line Gilgamesh gets, it is all so hilarious.

The Thief. Yeah, I know he's completely useless. His weapon and armor choices all suck and he doesn't get much better when he hands over the Rat's Tail to Bahamut...but dang it, he becomes a ninja! You gotta love that!

Squall.....I did kind of like the love story between him and Rinoa. That's my favorite part of VIII and about the only reason I'd play it again.

It seems much like everything in FF8, Squall is a "love it or hate it" kind of character.

Wait, people don't like Zidane? He's the coolest protagonist. I found him to be an annoying twerp. My problem with Zidane comes when Amarant is introduced and his backstory is given. I couldn't help to think of Zidane as a complete dick afterwards, especially since I absolutely despise intentional false accusations. I was definitely siding with Amarant here.
