The only reason Gohan ever fought was because the people he loved were in danger. Yet, someone around him usually dies during battles he's involved in. I always found that to be quite the character trait. It's sad yet, at the same time, you're just waiting for the moment when he can finally get it right. It finally does when he gets over his fear of failing again and beating Cell. Even after getting arrogant and allowing Cell to be able to self-destruct, forcing Goku to make his "Noble Sacrifice", he was able to learn his lesson and perform under pressure. That's one of the biggest reasons why the Cell Games saga was easily the most satisfying of probably all the sagas in Z. Not to mention that whole thing was carried over into movie 9.
Then they went back on that during his fight with Buu. That kind of retcon really bothers me no matter what series it is. It makes you question why you ever bothered getting emotionally invested in that character's story when they mess up the development like that.

My thinking is that I didn't mind Gohan losing his powers through slacking off over those 7 years, he's not a warrior at heart. Never has been. However, I wish he would have been much less of a dweeb. I mean, here's a guy who beat the most powerful villain in the franchise up to that point(Cell) and the only immortal villain in the franchise(Garlic Jr), but Videl absolutely terrifies him. Seems legit. He's following after his father in that regard. After all, we see how afraid Goku is of Chi-Chi most of the time.

Which was also weird considering that he had no problem standing up to Chi-Chi in Dragonball when she was acting weird. Yet now that they're married, he's whipped. As a matter of fact, now that I think about it, Gohan stood up to Chi-Chi more than Goku did.

Figuratively speaking, of course.

Typical Goku stealing the spotlight from other people. Guys like him are the reason the younger talent never get a shot in this business.

As much as some rag on the Buu saga, it had a lot of stuff I liked.
Especially the Tournament stuff up until Buu got loose. Them just dicking around because they were so much stronger than everyone was awesome, and made sense.

I would have actually preferred if they had just done a tournament to end DBZ just like they did in Dragonball. A tournament where Vegeta and Goku finally settle the score and Gohan beats Piccolo and Goku to officially become the hero of earth. Maybe I'd have also liked if they had added a new villain in there that Gohan beats in the finals like Goku did Piccolo in the last Dragonball tournament.

I've read you idea, and I can think of two problems: That would have been fun and people would've liked it. I'm convinced that the only point with the 10yr time skip and Uub was to depress, annoy and disappoint the audience as much as possible, setting the stage for the grand tour.

Pretty much was supposed to be father passing the torch to son.....but fan demand brought the almighty Goku back front and centre...thus the buu saga. But of course just to appease Gohan fans , Gohan became the single strongest non fused warrior in all of Z but Goku still saves the day....so consolation prize lol Reading this makes me think of this when it comes to Gundam Seed Destiny: Kira in GSD = Goku, post-Cell saga

The very first moment I knew GT was going to be one giant disappointment is when they only showed like 2 small scenes of Uub and Goku fighting at the lookout. I would have really liked if if they had shown the entire fight.

"Well you see brother, how are all my Gokumaniacs supposed to enjoy the show if it doesn't feature me? People don't want these new guys nobody has heard of. They want what's been proven to work. Because the Gokster here is the only one who can take it to the next level. Frieza and all the other bad dudes don't stand a chance against these 24 inch Shenrons. Whatcha gonna Buu-rother, when Gokumania runs wild on you?"
