When people wake up and realize he isn't anything special ;)Who can honestly say they would fork over $50+ bucks a month to buy PPV's headlined by this guy? They might illegally stream but they probably won't spend their own money to watch Ziggler do squat. The only reason he's getting pushed right now is because there is nobody else. Yea, he's probably best in the role he's in now-bouncing between upper mid-carder and occasional title contender. I can't see him becoming a mega-star that headlines Wrestlemania and has people thinking up dream matches for him like a Cena, Rock, Lesnar, HHH, Taker.

Why are we comparing Ziggler to part-timers that wrestle maybe once or twice a year?

Cena- People were relatively high on him but when he buried Christian that went out the window...he wasn't at Ziggler's level of fandom and not for this long either People turned on him after he won the World title at Wrestlemania the first time. And you're seriously downplaying Cena's fandom. Man was beloved even with his limited abilities at the time because his character was the s***. No, people turned against Orton before the whole Christian thing. Once he stopped being the Legend Killer and became fan friendly, the hate rose. When he became a heel again and formed Legacy, it died down. And he turned face once and the net turned against him. And him beating Christian took it over the top. Eddiesplotation. Once he started to win matches regularly, people turned against him. Beating Bryan in 18 seconds made him Public Enemy#1. We can keep saying its the vocal minority but a year ago saying anything negative about Punk got you shut down quick. People are not afraid to keep silent and making noise. The last few years as fan favorite was not as endearing as you think. He regularly got the "he's a dick" treatment do to his feud with Kane and Paul Bearer. He regularly beat at the time net fave Alberto Del Rio. And let's not forget his one sided feud with Ziggler. SRSsly. Even at the height of his prime, he got flack from the net. Words like limited skills and tired act were used a lot. Even back the Attitude era, the net was calling for him to retire. It's going to happen to Dolph. Nobody is immune from it. The moment he's an established main eventer and he keeps beating those hot newcomers the IWC loves, watch out.

Okay Reigns, okay. I think if you think about it, most of it ties back to Christian. Orton was hated by some (his initial face turn was a disaster, so that doesn't count), but it got much worse when he beat Christian. Cena was fine after the I Quit match, but got immense hatred for burying Christian. There was probably resentment for Edge being above Christian a little bit, considering how much Christian had outshined him the last couple of years prior. And Punk beat up Christian, robbing us of an awesome match.
Don't mess with Christian.

Don't mess with Christian. I knew we could find common ground on something.

Many downturns in popularity for WWE faces start with a feud where they go over Christian, often repeatedly. Add Sheamus to that list too, as his next feud as a face after Mark Henry was, you guessed it, Christian.

Vince will never, ever get behind him and has derailed his momentum a berjillion different times. So when new faces go over him, people turn on them in their own way.

Whenever he goes face.
Whenever he talks more than he wrestles (sorry, I think he's terrible on the mic, though charismatic)
