Anyone else appreciate the purple lunchbox? For me it was my 2nd console of the 6th generation(first being the Dreamcast). I loved it, even if it didn't have the same 3rd party support as the PS2 or even the Xbox. I was satisfied with games like Super Smash Bros. Melee, Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, Bloody Roar: Primal Fury, Wrestlemania XIX, Day of Reckonings 1 & 2, Super Mario Sunshine, Luigi's Mansion, F-Zero GX, Spider-Man 2, and many others.
I was actually depressed when we had to sell our first GameCube because my brother wanted a PS2. I didn't seem to like the games as much, in fact I thought HCTP was inferior to WMXIX gameplay wise(but everyone else thinks it's the greatest of all time, so go figure), though SYM is pretty fun. But yeah, GameCube is probably my favorite Nintendo console and I pretty much use my Wii as a fancier GameCube more than half the time.

I always liked it better than the original Xbox. I mean, yeah the Xbox had better third party support, but as far as I'm concerned the 'Cube kicked its ass in exclusives.

I love it. I spent a long, long time ripping all my old gamecube games to my external HD so that they would load faster on my Wii. Still play the games sometimes.

GameCube is still great.
Especially with a Game Boy Player hooked up to it.
...however, I got the black version, not the purple one.

...however, I got the black version, not the purple one. Oh yeah yeah, me too. The gamecube is like the one console where one of the alternative color schemes was so much better than the original that I forget that it wasn't the original to start with. Love the black gamecube.

I liked how it was the easiest to play imports on.

I still don't know what was going through their minds when chose purple as the default colour. I got mine when I was 14 and I can still remember my friends making fun of me for buying it. I didn't care, but I can imagine that cost them more than a few potential buyers.

Our first GameCube we ever bought was the platinum one. My current one(which I have since given to my little brother) is the original indigo.

I didn't care, but I can imagine that cost them more than a few potential buyers. I think it says more about you if you don't buy a console because it's not black. It says something about the gaming community as a whole. Like I said, I didn't care. My 'Cube still sits proudly on my shelf alongside all of my classic game consoles. But knowing gamers as I do (especially in 2001 when it was significantly less mainstream than it is today), it's pretty obvious that the purple colour scheme played a role in reinforcing the image of Nintendo being "for kids," no matter how many Resident Evils or Killer 7s got released for the system. I firmly believe it cost them sales.
