So... having watched the first 2 episodes of Reconguista... Tomino... please get on the meds again. Explain stuff. Give us backstory. Give us something that resembles pacing. Give us redundant female cheerleaders that are NOT irritating as all hell. I mean, I'm still interested in the series, but my God do you need to dig deep in it to find consistency of some sort. Also, is it supposed to be after UC but before Turn A or is it after Turn A? Cause I kinda want this to degenerate into the war that led to the creation of Turn A and Turn X and the destruction of the world as we know it. We even have a dark skinned character like Loran! ONE OF THE COUNTRIES IS CALLED AMERIA FOR CHRIST'S SAKE~! Even that museum on the 2nd episode with the "classical models"? Yeah, totally a mountain cycle. Gundam has always been kind of weird about introducing people. In Wing, I don't think they bother to say anyone's name, almost, or most of the Gundams' names for like 4-5 episodes.

In Wing, yeah, they were weird with the names. But at least it kinda made sence. With Reconguista I think it's the continuation of Tomino's lack of undestanding of pacing the story acting up again after Brain Powered (although Turn A Gundam's wasn't that good either. Stuff either happens out of nowhere and verbally (mostly uninteresting character development and backstory) or has virtually no transition).
Although, truth being told, this is only the 2nd TV series he has directed since BP ended (the others being Turn A Gundam and Overman King Gainer... so it's the first one in 12 years) so his grasp of directing for the TV public may be a little rough.

Agreed. Hopefully, the pacing will pick up. If not... well, at least there's Try. BTW, with Fukoda's latest, ahem, work... I'm gonna summerize the first episode (at least in my own opinion) with this line: WHAT THE F**K IS THIS SHIT?!!I am done with new anime. I'm sticking to the oldies.

Here's a mashup of GSD's first opening with Cross Ange's opening, featuring TM Revolution: www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_nfKJlcEhANudity warning. Note the similarities between Cross Ange and GS/GSD in the pic below:

Oof. Color me unimpressed with him.
However, I am intrigued by the kits for Build Fighters Try. Seemingly, there will be a Hyaku Shiki custom of some type, along with a booster for it, so I am really hoping there will be a new kit for it, since the HGUC Hyaku Shiki is ancient, with peg-hands and other dated parts. No prototype pictures are out yet that I know of, though, so we'll see, I guess.

Dodge on Cross Ange, it's nothing but misogynist exploitative torture crap.
I really need to finish Build Fighters S1, got three eps from finishing then stopped for some reason.

(Which I would love if Bandai actually made a kit of, in part due to just how weird that'd be conceptually)

Not digging TRY fighters so far. Only on episode 1 but it just seems pointlessly like the first season.

I know Wing isn't exactly held in the highest regard but the Heavy Arms is still the sexiest Gundam ever made. Because screw close combat options, a sword just takes up space for MORE GUNS.

Hey, discussing it got blocked on several forums because, as one person put it, it's "princess humiliation porn". There's absolutely nothing redeeming about it. It's pure garbage largely because key focal points in the shows focus on... unpleasant topics. I would put the effort into watching the first Build Fighters. It's a good program, although it's one where the main villain (Chairman Mashima) is a complete goof, but the truly evil villain is a secondary guy (Nine Barthes). I personally haven't gotten around to Build Fighters TRY or Reconguista since I've learned that I suffer from anxiety problems whenever I watch an anime show and have to wait a week for the next episode (don't like stress... it's been bad for my health), and most of what I have tried to watch in the past two years from inception to finale have burned me out, and like Fukada did a decade ago, he killed my interest in the genre once and for all again. But... I still love Gundam. I know Wing isn't exactly held in the highest regard but the Heavy Arms is still the sexiest Gundam ever made. Because screw close combat options, a sword just takes up space for MORE GUNS. It's a pretty good design, but Wing's not in a high regard due to the fangirls making everybody out to be bishounen. A Gundam I like from a series I don't is Reborns from the 2nd season of 00. It deserved a MUCH better pilot than Ribbons.

I just finished building an HG EX 1/60 God Gundam gunpla that I got last week from New York Comic Con. Kinda annoyed the LED light doesn't work. I'm not sure if I got the wrong batteries or if I messed up with the wiring in the battery housing, as it was a little flimsy.
Still a pretty badass design from one of my favorite Gundam anime. It's also pretty massive. Never built a 1/60 scale model kit before.

I'm thinking about buying a few MSIA figures to put on my computer desk (starting with Throne Drei, then adding Destiny & Reborns later). I know Gundam purists prefer the Gunpla, but I have bad tremors and a fear of handling sharp objects. Does buying a MSIA figure make me a lesser fan?

Gundam references in Cross Ange: And here's Jesus Yamato Tusk, the possible male lead: He's voiced by Mamoru Miyano (Setsuna F. Seiei, Light Yagami).

Not a lesser fan, though you could easily make kits with only snips, which would be virtually impossible to hurt yourself with. That being said, MSIAs are neat, as are Robot Damashiis. No shame in going for figures if you prefer it. I am inordinately happy that the "Himock" from Build Fighters is getting a model kit. I love the design, and beyond that, it's hilarious to me that a model kit that, in the show, is basically a bootleg and mocking bootlegs of Bandai products is getting a Bandai product, and will quite possibly get made into bootlegs in real life, too.

I have a few MSIAs, myself, mostly since the old Wing kits are ridiculously dated. The MSIAs are a lot closer to screen accuracy.

I just like building the Gunplas. Reminds me a lot of building stuff out of LEGOS or helping my dad with his Star Trek model kits when I was a kid.
But regular ol' action figures are pretty neat, too. Not to mention they're typically cheaper. I really want to get into the Master Grades, but they're pretty expensive.

Raising this thread from the abyss:
I'm going to take on my first Master Grade for Hanukkah this year. Any suggestions for a fun kit to build? I'd like to avoid 00 (because everything I've built but my God Gundam is from 00) and Seed/Seed Destiny because I didn't like that series too much.
I'm leaning towards something from the UC continuity (One Year War, Zeta, ZZ, Char's Counterattack, Unicorn, F91, V, etc). Though Gundam Wing also has some pretty nice mecha designs. I'd also like to stick to the Gundam mobile suits for my first MG, though I'd eventually like to build something like the Sazabi down the line, too.

I would highly recommend looking at jabman025's youtube channel, as he has tons of reviews of various MG kits, newer and old, letting you know what to expect, like if any painting would be required for 100% accuracy, if a part is tricky, etc. That said, the 2.0 RX-78-2 is considered one of the best master grades or kits, period, ever made, and if you don't like the look of it, there is a 3.0 where it has a lot of its own charms to it. The F91 is a pretty great MG, too, though it is much smaller. The Zeta Gundam looks great, but the transformation has never been easy on any kit of it, requiring either part swapping to complete with some kits, or being finicky on others. The Victory Gundam kit and the Stamen are unfortunately not good Master Grades, arguably being the worst ones released for various reasons, including inability to properly hold their weapons, and in the Victory's case, it falls apart due to the transformation. Those are just some tips off-hand, hope it's of any help.
