People kept mistaking him for Bill Pullman.

Doesn't need to be. He's probably happy being the best thing in every movie he appears in. That's his niche.

Because he's nothing. He's navel lint! He has to lie to women to get laid, and he doesn't score much.

He was in one of the more underrated comedies that don't get much love.

People kept mistaking him for Bill Pullman. Go watch Brain Dead and you'll never make that mistake again. I was on the fence about him for years because the one chance he had with a big blockbuster with Twister, he has had some memorable roles; Weird Science Aliens Near Dark One False Move A Simple Plan Frailty

Bill Paxton is awesome. To this day his downward spiral from cocky and happy-go-lucky to pessimistic and insane in Aliens is one of my favorite character arcs in a film.

People kept mistaking him for Bill Pullman. Director:"Glad to have you on set Mr. Paxton. You'll be great as the president of the united states." Bill Pullman:"Actually I'm Pullman." Director:".......oh well. It's not like anybody will know the difference. Action!!"

His major starring role was TWISTER.
Yeah..........
Personally, though, I think the answer to this thread is "Philip Seymour Hoffman fed off Paxton's lifeforce and took the stardom for himself and spun it into a critically acclaimed career."

I just watched Club Dread for the first time this past summer. Coconut Pete was hands down one of the funniest things I'd ever seen. The acting of Paxton and the song titles: "I'd tell ya but then I'd have tequila" and "Sea shanties and wet panties" had me in tears.

Which isn't entirely a bad thing as Hoffman is also a good actor.

He seems like he doesn't want to schmooze and be a hollywood type dude so he probably doesn't get HUGE roles for that reason.
"Bill, come to this lunch on Rodeo and talk to this producer about this film." "Nah - I'm gonna hang out on my ranch and just relax."

I never looked at him as "leading man superstar". I think he's had the exact career he should have, really.

He usually brings the comedic to action movies. Has he ever been in an actual comedy?
