It probably wasn't the best idea to watch this match straight after watching the first Hell in a Cell. The cage looked flimsy all the way through the match and you can actually see it bend as Savage pushes off, despite the commentary's assurances that this was solid steel and more dangerous than the chain link stuff.

Ref: "Hurry up, Goldberg! I don't know how much longer I can be distracted before it starts looking suspicious." Before lifting Mongo for the Jackhammer, Goldberg had already speared him almost into the ref. You know how sometimes you start writing something and you're overconfident in how much room you have and the last bit ends up all scrunched up? The very next sign the showed was this one: At first I was to busy trying to work out which order to read it in to notice the spelling mistakes.

I still credit Randy for jumping off a steel frigging cage at forty five years old.

It probably wasn't the best idea to watch this match straight after watching the first Hell in a Cell. That was probably the best to way to experience Age in a Cage though. The fact is that this match took place only three weeks after Hell in a Cell, so you're looking at through the same eyes of wrestling fans in 1997. There was arguably a better match on the Halloween Havoc card, but the difference between the WWF and WCW was that the main events delivered and the undercard sucked ass in the WWF. In WCW, Rey Mysterio vs. Eddy Guerrero stole the show, but the headliner was that pile of shit in the GIF above.

This could have ended up very bad for Jericho. Jericho mentions this incident in his first book. His father was in the audience for this match and his mother was in a wheelchair after being paralyzed from a spinal injury (caused by her abusive boyfriend at the time). He said it was a miracle that he didn't get hurt at all.

I wasn't watching a lot of WCW at the time, I don't think we ever got the PPVs over here so I am seeing a lot of this stuff for the first time. Hopefully they start putting up more Nitros soon, since there aren't any neat little video packages before each match to explain the build either. It'd be great to be able to see everything, WCW & WWF, in order. The only reason I can remember the cage match happening, even though I never saw it, was that Jim Cornette was doing 'shoot' segments on Raw in the lead up to his NWA thing. He mentioned that WCW was describing it as the best cage match in history, when it was only the greatest cage match in the 3 weeks since Hell in a Cell. From what I've seen, I agree with you about WCW's undercard and WWF's main events. If only we could have combined them. I'd probably have more gifs for this thread, but the bits that are gif worthy are usually in the matches that I'm actually enjoying watching and I just forget to capture them.

I don't know what it was that amused me so much when this happened: Man Scott and Marcus were the attitude boys in WCW. True future main eventers if WCW had lived long enough.

At least he didn't land on a bale of hay. That can be very abrasive to the skin (thanks, Tony).
