You're doing well, just in the middle. You know as well as any one that this is as much a test of endurance as anything else.

As the Round concluded, the Host lead the Contestants back to the FAN recording studio to visit some old friends. Among the hum of mix tapes and the crackle of sundry recording machinery, the contestants found wadefan22, dressed in a leather denim jacket with ripped blue jeans, looking strikingly like Runaway-era Joan Jett, laying down a vocal track for J, who was producing Idolatry: FAN Idol Season 8, the album, a Charles Mingus-esque beret on his head. "One more time from the top. Let me slow down the drum beat and see how that sounds," J told the pop singer, who sipped a little from her Rave Black energy drink, savoring it's cinnamony flavor, and starting her uncanny Soprano tessitura again, hitting high notes left and right. When that run-through concluded, J sent an mp3 of the Session to Moonie, who was hard at work recalibrating the telescope at the FAN Moon Base but not so busy that he couldn't lend his expert ear to the track. "Come on, J! I really think you should listen to my drum solo again. I considered the blast beat, you know the one that I used for the last FAN Idol album and I..." rambled Square, who was under strict surveillance by the FAN security forces, ashcampbell with his boom stick filled with tranquilizer darts aimed on Square at all moments. kidglov3s(ant), FAN's head nurse, monitored Square's stress level, administering the chemical cocktail necessary to keep him square and level. As the former contestants continued recording, KingOrangeTyger gathered the remaining FAN Idol hopefuls and explained their next challenge: KingOrangeTyger: As you can see, music has the power to bring together the most disparate of individuals. Your former competitors have banded together to record an album dedicated to this Season of FAN Idol and, should you unfortunately find yourself eliminated from competition, you are all invited to collaborate with them. You all have fantastic musical backgrounds, Cageking rising up through the Underground world of Exploding Cage rap battles and Anonymous GM's days of posing as various lounge singers in her espionage days during the Great Board Wars, so you should fit right in. Ah, but that leads us to our next Category: Strange BedfellowsChoose one song that features two or more artists collaborating that do not normally work together. Any genre, time period, level of professional achievement, recorded or live, etc. The artists must not work with each other on a regular basis, so no duos like Simon and Garfunkel or Supergroups like the Wu-Tang Clan unless someone who doesn't normally perform with them joins them in a song. So, if the Wu-Tang Clan recorded a song with Eminem, for example, that would be legal but not if it's just the Wu-Tang Clan with the regular 9 or so members. The collaboration can be fulfilled in multiple ways: a duet, a guest role playing an instrument or providing the vocals, even producing IF it's notably from the artist (so, Dr Dre or Moby could produce a song and leave a huge mark on that song). A sample? Maybe. I'll allow it but it's up to the judges to decide how they would score it. Currently, there are 10 out of 13 songs in.

So I'm a beret wearing music producer? I like it! I was in need of a new gimmick.

I wonder who is all those guys and gal in that picture I can tell Mr. T and Doc Brown but who are the rest? You have Macguyver with the Swiss Army Knife, Jack Burton (as played by Kurt Russell) from John Carpenter's Big Trouble from Little China, and the woman is Lisa, played by Kelly LeBrock in John Hughes' Weird Science. The image is a parody of the cover of the first TPB of Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neill's League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. I think you would make a good music producer, J. We have 11 of 13 songs in. Keep it going!

Well I didn't recognize Macguyver, I used to watch that show awhile back never seen Big Trouble from Little China but I heard of it and I haven't seen the Weird Science movie in years I used to watch the TV show a lot back in the day I thought the TV Show Lisa was hotter than the movie version. Still looking forward to seeing what everybody picked for this round so I'll know if I need to be worried or not also I just found a song I could of used this round that might be a good pick for next round, its not good enough to replace the song I already got picked but its not bad.

Was really doubting my pick at first so I was really suprised it did so well. Same here, I pretty much went with the first (read: only) ideas that popped in my head. I was very surprised to see my pick hadn't been chosen by anyone else, it seemed like an obvious one. Maybe too obvious?

Sometimes being obvious is for the best.

I said earlier there was a song I was thinking about using for the family round but didn't well the song was "We are Family" it was the first thing that popped into my mind as well but I felt it would be to obvious so I went with something else and then changed my pick 50 times only to wind up in last place with the song I decided to go with, ok it wasn't 50 times but it was quite a lot and I don't think any of the other songs I wanted to use would of won the round anyway so I went with Grandma got a facebook since I just discovered that song and I really liked it.

PMs have been sent to the last two contestants. I hope to hear from them soon, ideally by tomorrow evening at the latest. Give them time but, yeah, pretty antsy to keep going . If the Save ever gets used, I have a sick, sick idea for the extra two rounds A little organizational error on my part but it's been resolved, so now we are waiting on one contestant, who's said that they'll have a pick in by tonight. So, we're almost there.

The contestants proceeded to make their song selections for this most difficult of Rounds. Without necessarily intending to, the would-be FAN Idols formed unlikely alliances of their own, as they brainstormed about the songs they were to pick. Knalisic loves to Boogie and Roxie Daggers, for example, made a weekend road trip to the legendary FAN Dive Bar, Shockmaster's, where they played to a seedy, grungy house every night for two weeks, cranking out classic rock standards and power pop ballads to a mixed reception by the biker clientele. One enormous biker wearing a stylized helmet attempted to chase after Roxie Daggers during a second encore rendition of Electric Funeral but ended up crashing through a wall, to the shock of the drunken audience. Pissed off, she took to her dagger handle bar motorcycle and sped off. Knalisic, having a grand old time of it, played Cream covers for gravy and fries and good old fashioned root beer floats (not letting you drink in my Season, young man and eventually found inspiration for the current round after a heated game of Chicken involving rolentx, two Villanos, and Hilly Billy Jim's pick-up truck. fw91 and Z-A Sandbaggin' Son of a b!% h made a pilgrimage to where the legendary night club CBGB once resided at 315 Bowery at Bleecker Street in Manhattan in order to soak up whatever punk rock vibes still remained in the area. Running into ECW alum Raven, self-proclaimed King of the Bowery, fw91 and Z-A quickly found themselves in a Raven's Clockwork Orange Style street fight match against Raven and a few of his flunkies, including generationxero who evidently took over Stevie Richards's role in Raven's Flock, wearing a BWO belly shirt and getting waffled with a singapore cane by Z-A Sandbaggin' Son of a..., who dressed up as the Sandman. fw91 eventually made peace with Raven by giving him a few FAN Cds and calling Tommy Dreamer fat. The duo had the enigmatic ECW alum crank call KingOrangeTyger at the FAN Base, calling the Host a dork and threatening to enter the Blue Meanie in Season 9 of FAN Idol. fw91 and Z-A Sandbaggin' Son of a b!% h got to see the outlaw rebel grunge philosophy up close and personal, possibly informing their choices for the current Round. In their various ways, the Contestants buddied up, relaxed, brainstormed and came up with these selections: Hurricane- 30 Seconds to Mars ft. Kanye West www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xqIQhBokyQSeemann- Apocalyptica feat. Nina Hagen www.youtube.com/watch?v=1dLmSVcyxtwF*** You- Cee Lo Green and Daryl Hall www.youtube.com/watch?v=QodGtTU69uQNeither of Us Can See - Incubus feat. Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders www.youtube.com/watch?v=4GR8Rtt_ajEMario Kart Love Song- Jimmy Fallon and Selena Gomez www.youtube.com/watch?v=_di8lfyOzyw&feature=youtu.beCommander- Kelly Rowland & David Guetta www.youtube.com/watch?v=dwfKZ-1jyiwPicture- Kid Rock ft. Sheryl Crow www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=rKFx0MMqb48Portland, Oregon- Loretta Lynn & Jack White www.youtube.com/watch?v=VuC_l3ymXhMThey Can't Take That Away from Me- Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=ExmoiGZuiFQAll I Want for Christmas- Mariah Carey ft. Jimmy Fallon and the Roots www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWEfszb9h8QDaylight- Maroon 5 Ft. Chelsea Williams & Playing for Change Musicians www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqR-ElB5kXYSeven Spanish Angels- Ray Charles and Willie Nelson www.youtube.com/watch?v=x8A9Y1Dq_cQGimme Shelter- The Rolling Stones With Lady Gaga www.youtube.com/watch?v=qd9Ps7MAtZUNote: two of the songs feature Jimmy Fallon in a musical role. Normally, I wouldn't allow that but I'm going to let it slide this Round because there's a vast difference between what he does in the songs (various percussion playing in one song among several other musicians and performing a duet in the other) and I want to keep the game going without having to wait another day or so. I'm going to relax the one artist used only once a round rule because of those factors and also because one of the contestants using Jimmy Fallon went through about four other choices beforehand. Also... it's Jimmy Fallon. Not saying he isn't an incredibly talented guy but the whole point of the one song by one artist per game and round is that we want contestants to stay away from musical crutches like the Beatles. You have two vastly different songs here that feature Jimmy Fallon as one of the lead musicians and the other where he obviously takes a back seat to Mariah f***ing Carey. So, it doesn't bother me. Ultimately, the game is about having fun and I don't see a lot of fun in someone having to pick and repick five different songs because a Round such as this makes the repeat artist rule very hard to follow. If it, for whatever reason, comes back to bite the Round in the ass, I'll take full responsibility but, really, if that happens, then I'll eat a hat like that one guy always says he will in the WWE threads.

You guys went to the Bowery to check out CBGB or, at least, where it once was, ran into Raven and had to fight him and his goons in a street fight, presumably in a shadowy warehouse or some place like that. You held your own and made friends with him because Tommy Dreamer is Fat. Now he keeps calling us up asking for money and calling us asshats.
