This certainly isn't an attack directed at anyone, but I have noticed that by far the least useful conversations in this forum are about who's over and who's not. Because crowd noise is apparently ambiguous enough that two people who are both honestly trying to be objective can have completely different assessments of the reaction someone is getting. Also, for some reason, it's like especially impossible for anyone to keep their own opinions from influencing their assessment. Someone who hates Ryback will be more likely to hear a quieter crowd than someone who loves him, even if both people are really honestly trying to be fair.

LMAO. while we are at it. What is the EXACT wrestling definition of over because I'm so OVER(ha) hearing that word Basically if the wrestler is getting reactions from the crowd (heat or cheers for Heels, and just Cheer for faces) "...we wish Jake Hager (Jack Swagger) well in his future endeavors." - WWE.com

It goes back to what someone said to another poster when we were talking about what kind of crowd reactions we wanted for wrestlemania and someone said del rio gets "conway pops" and the poster said basically you don't like del rio so your perception on his popularity is clouded. I've noticed this about alot of people who do or don't like someone. That's why i said some marks are blind and biased when it comes to those they love hate or are indifferent to.

You can't say that everyone is over and then say that Del Rio isn't doing good because his opponent sucks at getting the crowd invested in the storyline. Like that pretty clearly means that Swagger isn't very over. Also, if Del Rio was more over as this Mexican working man's hero or what have you, the angle wouldn't suck so much.

I think almost every WWE Superstar, even the lowest of the low is over to some extent. Alberto Del Rio is over, he's just been stuck with a crappy storyline. I get that Ricardo is the most entertaining part of his act, but personally, that doesn't make me like him any less. Pretty much this. Execpt guys like JTG and Yoshi. But thats because I dont watch "Superstars" so I wouldnt know. this

The adage is if you make money you're over, but that is actually a bit subjective. If you are given no merch on the stand, can people buy your shirt? If your segments on TV get good live reactions and good ratings, but they are few and far between, are you over or is the crowd being "smarky"?
If you sell merchandise like crazy, but your segments get lower ratings meaning less TV revenue, which factor counts more towards being over?
Not really answering the question, I know, but always ones that I have pondered.

Then don't get that great of a reaction in front of a crowd that's dead the whole show outside of 2 or 3 people. People complain the crowd is dead yet single out a particular person. Or if smarks cheer a heel over a face. Does that mean the face isn't "over". Does those two scenarios cancel out having great reactions in the past? ??

If the Smackdown taping I was at in Boston last night is any indication, Zeb Coulture is the most over guy in the company

I just said the storyline with swagger wasn't interesting because swagger wasn't built up properly over time with that gimmick before he went after del rio. The guy you quoted. The guy you quoted literally said that.

If being "over" is eliciting any type of crowd response then the question should be who isn't "over". Who gets ABSOLUTELY NO reaction what so ever? I can't think of anyone besides maybe jtg and Ezekiel Jackson.
