Not to upset any fans of it, but I remembered reading in High School and it was so completely uninteresting to me. I read it in High School and I don't remember a damn thing!

This is one of the best novels ever written and has never and seems will never have a decent adaptation...Like 3d really? Terrible music. f*** off.

Not too shocked by this to be honest. Luhrmann's stuff is mostly based on visuals. After that, it's hit or miss. I liked Moulin Rouge, though it does have its flaws, and Romeo + Juliet was just awful. I probably would've seen this had it gotten good reviews, but based on this, I'll wait until it's out on Blu-Ray to give it a watch.

Critics don't know squat. I re-read the novel in college for a class and loved it. I'm currently re-reading it to reacquaint myself with it so I'm fully prepared for the movie. I'm really excited for this film and am hoping it won't be a disappointment.

Just got back. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}Movie was crappy in the beginning, but once Gatsby appeared it went uphill greatly. Even though I know the ending, I was still shocked and actually felt with Nick.

The Spill Crew seemed to like it.
Might give it a shot when it's on DVD or on demand.

Did the movie miss the point of the book as completely as it looks like it did in the trailers?

Did the movie miss the point of the book as completely as it looks like it did in the trailers? {Spoiler}{Spoiler}The funeral is inaccurate. No Gatsby dad. No meeting of Nick and the Buchanans after Gatsby's death. Oh, and Nick Carraway wrote the Great Gatsby from a mental institution in 1929. Tom tells Wilson at the garage who killed Myrtle that night instead of the next day at his house.

Did the movie miss the point of the book as completely as it looks like it did in the trailers? Nope. And to be honest, the whole preemptive kerfluffle about that felt pretty silly to me. They weren't going to make a Gatsby movie while eviscerating the themes of the story.

To be honest, I remember reading this book in high school, but I can't remember a damn thing about it. My girfriend is trying to convince me into re-reading this book and Ethan Frome as well, another book that didn't register an impact to me.
