In a pretty big shock, UFC just announced that it will be Holly Holm getting the next shot at Ronda Rousey on January 2nd. Miesha Tate passed over for some strange reason.

Way too soon for Holm.... now, I thought she could be a woman that, in maybe 2 years after some seasoning, that could give her a fight. I just think it is too soon right now. I might be in the minority, but I wanted to see Rousey/Tate III. Miesha gave her the toughest fight of her career, IMO, and is tough as nails. Rousey would most likely win again, but you can never count Tate out.

Guh, Holm. Hope it ends quickly so we don't have to listen to her "AISH!" for 30 minutes.

Eh, is more interesting than another Tate fight at least. A lot of fans wanted Tate because with it being the third fight, Tate would be in a better position to give Rousey a competitive fight. But I have a feeling UFC want to continue with Rousey destroying women in seconds, to get her to the point where she fights Cyborg.

195 may have two women's title fights as Joanna J defending her title against Claudia Gadelha looks to be the plan.
Khabib is back at the TUF Finale in December vs. Tony Ferguson.

According to Wrestling Observer Live, Dana White is claimed to have said (paraphrasing) that he didn't give Miesha Tate the title shot as her previous two fights with Ronda Rousey ended the same way, and trilogies should only be reserved for rivalries like Gatti/Ward or Duran/Leonard. So looks like Tate's only getting another shot once Ronda's lost the title or vacates it.

UFC did Frankie Edgar vs BJ Penn 3 times with Frankie winning all 3 fights so "saving trilogies for big rivalries" isn't that good of reason to strip Miesha Tate of her title shot. I mean, if Chad Méndez didn't thought about going for a guillotine choke on Conor McGregor while he was on Conor's guard, we could possibly be dealing with Méndez/Aldo 3 and that along with the Velásquez/Dos Santos that could've costed brain cells and life years off Cigano's life span doesn't make this decision look good by saying that Tate's not getting a title shot after Rousey beat her twice.
If memory serves me right, Dana White himself named Miesha the number one contender for the female bantemweight title after she beat Jessica Eye last month so, if anything, this might show that Dana's word can change whenever the UFC sees fit, now possibly pairing Tate with Amanda Nunes in the same card as Rousey/Holm. Sure, Tate might've looked bad against Rin Nakai and Liz Carmouche but she beat Sara McMann and Jessica Eye decisively and she might as well be one of the few threats Rousey has in the UFC. Rousey/Tate 3 might've been part of a one-sided rivalry but Tate's one of the few fighters that have a legitimate claim at fighting for the title. Why Holm/Nunes wasn't booked instead is besides me but I guess we can wait how this plays out.

So apparently the UFC didn't think that Tate deserved to know that she was no longer fighting Rousey. link

I'm shocked that Dana White and Zuffa would do something like this. SHOCKED!!!! LOL

I understand the UFC deciding not to giving Miesha the title shot although she would be my top choice (perhaps she could go against Amanda Nunes or attempt to avenge her loss to Cat Zingano). I just wish they wouldn't promise title shots to someone if they were not dead set on following through with it.

The difference between Edgar vs Penn and Rousey vs Tate is that the 3rd fight in Edgar vs Penn happened 4 years after the 2nd, and the first 2 were decisions. With Rousey vs Tate, Ronda's made her tap out the only times they've fought. Had it been Rousey winning both by decision I'd think it would be different. Also, don't underestimate that people have wanted to see Rousey vs Holly Holm for awhile. So before Holm gets beat by McMann or Tate, Dana went with Holm vs Rousey to get money. There will be the money for Rousey vs Tate 3: Can Rousey Rip Tate's Arm Off?, but they're pulling the trigger on the Holm vs Rousey fight in fear that Holm would get beat before Rousey.

Only issue with that is Holm isn't a draw, nor will UFC hype her much, if at all, for this fight. The hype for Rousey's fights are centered 100% on Rousey. Her opponent might as well not exist. Also since the general reaction to this fight is surprise, and not a good surprise, I doubt the UFC is going to get much out of this. Holm could have been a big fight in a year or so once she got more exposure from UFC. Now she's just going to get thrown to the lioness and that will be it.

Zuffa are such dishonest dickheads. You can't believe a word any of those guys say about anything. If you didn't want Miesha getting the next shot, don't say that she's next after her last fight.
Ronda will kill Holm. That fight is an utter joke. Holm is much ado about nothing and has shown nothing in the two fights she's had in the UFC against scrubs with her pillow hands. Her career will be dead after she loses in January.

My 2 cents on Ronda/Holm... UFC lies all the time. Don't take it personally...unless you're Meisha. She really got insulted here. People are saying maybe she can fight Cyborg. She'd do it if possible. Maybe a Cat rematch? I don't think Holm has impressed in her UFC fights, so Dana's just bumping her up now before she loses to a top 5 fighter. He can push the undefeated boxing champ angle. Ronda won't be here forever so the UFC needs as many undefeated vs undefeated fights it can get out of her. UFC did Frankie Edgar vs BJ Penn 3 times with Frankie winning all 3 fights so "saving trilogies for big rivalries" isn't that good of reason to strip Miesha Tate of her title shot. To be fair a LOT of people thought BJ won the 1st fight. Another trilogy people point out is Tito/Ken, but I think the 2nd one had a bad stoppage taint to it. Tate won maybe 14 secs total of her two fights with Ronda. She didn't really push Ronda to the 3rd as much as just survived until she lost.
