Yes, yes, we all know the jokes, but seriously, how many more years before Cena either retires or has a taker/hhh-style part time run?

I'd guess it will be about 5 or 6 years until he goes part-timer like HHH and Taker.

I honestly feel that his current title reign, regardless of how long or short it is, is his last hurrah before he becomes a "legend".

I think when Cena stops, it's not going to be through some gradual grinding down; it's going to be like Edge, just suddenly one week his career is over.

*kids in 2005*
Kid 1: Cena is f***ing awesome, I hope he holds the title forever!
Kid 2: Yeah man, he's my favorite wrestler, the champ is here!!!
*same kids as adults in 2015*
Kid 1: Cena is f***ing awful, I hope he drops the title, it's been forever!
Kid 2: Yeah man, he's my least favorite wrestler, the champ needs to leave!!!

He's 36 now, I'd say at least another 9-10 years. I assume in the next 5-6 years he'll stop doing House Shows and stuff though (Like they did with Taker) and he won't wrestle as much but I think he'll still be a main eventer.
Could see him completely retiring around 50. Only another 14 years of Cena guys hang in there

As long as the kids love him and he sells merch, he'll be around in some capacity. Wrestler? Maybe not. GM? Possibly.

They'd better have plans for someone else soon, or they'll be no one to take his place.

My guess, if Cena's career ended tomorrow you'd suddenly be seeing Punk, Sheamus, and Bryan being pushed through the roof to see which one best stuck for the position, and in the meantime they'd probably throw a ton of money at Batista and Michaels to try and get them back.

Honestly 3-4 years and I'm being generous. He hardly has ever had a long break from wrestling since he first started other even before in the WWE. He has been in the mainevent since 2005 meaning he has to have the longest matches and perform matches of the night constantly, tons of gimmick matches with lots of high spots, rushes back from major injuries, and he has a body builder build meaning tons of feats of strengths and his heaviness is probably not good for all of his joints and tendons and muscles. Plus he travels the most doing tons of promotional work and make a wish things. The difference between he and Edge who also did tons of high profile gimmick matches with tons of high spots is that Cena has a bus prolonging his career.
So with that being said maybe 2-3 years. Then again Cena is a genetic freak

Seeing 9-10 years thrown around in this thread kinda scares me. I can't even picture Cena old.

Once he locates Arn Anderson's fountain of youth, he will never leave WWE.

Once he locates Arn Anderson's fountain of youth, he will never leave WWE. And the plus side, in Cena's case no one will even notice the side effect that makes you replace random words with "butthole."

Lots of generous timelines but I'm also of the school of thought that it'll be sudden like Edge. When Cena gets injured he really tears himself apart and is gone for ages. It would only make sense for him to take a part-time schedule after 40.

I'm kind of curious to see what happens with John Cena when he starts winding down his wrestling career. Does he get into the corporate side of WWE? Movies and tv like The Rock? Does he drop off the face of the earth?

To be honest, I thought his habit of returning 35% into his scheduled time off every time he was injured would have done him in by now (for scale, the hip injury Wade Barrett gave him didn't heal properly for about 10 months.)

Does he drop off the face of the earth? My guess, movies and TV. He's already done a decent bit of both, and the guy is a known star; if he had the time to devote to it, I can't see him reaching quite the level of success as an actor Rock has had, but I definitely could see him doing better than the usual cheap straight-to-DVD stuff people like Angle and Nash do.
