it think most WWE main eventers are portrayed as kind of goofy. Yeah, and that's not a good thing. I kind of think it is. Vince doesn't want stolid, stiff humorless people on his show. Sports Entertainment is massive!! It's crazy. It invites all sorts of people and you've got to be a little... eccentric to want to participate in in. These are supposed to be men without internal censors, not office workers in trunks instead of suits. I think wrestling might be the only modern example of vaudeville style entertainment

No! No! No! No!
All of you in favour of a shave are either women, children or jealous because you lack the ability to grow a magnificent (pun intended) beard. He's a man, and men have beards.

It's too goofy and whimsical for a potential main eventer. His instability could still be conveyed with the YES and NO thing. The beard isn't necessary. it think most WWE main eventers are portrayed as kind of goofy. Most are portrayed as douches. Even the faces. Which is why they tend to suck.

Not some vaudeville/carny/freakshow with a "roll up roll up, be entertained by the cavalcade of the bizarre....see the goatfaced bearded weirdo, and the magical leprechaun, and the incomprehensible Punjabi giant....it's FAB-YOU-LUSSS!!!!" vibe to it.

I've been watching wrestling since around 90-91 (WWF/E, WCW, GWF, SMW, LPWA, ECW and a smattering of TNA and went back and watched some 80's NWA), and overall I've always preferred WWE's style

Don't shave it, just style it. Like braid it into a tri-beard or something.

Nah, I like hobo Bryan with the beard and shaggy hair. It's something that separates him from a lot of the pack. There are plenty of clean-cut wrestlers in WWE already.

The "variety show/ sports entertainment" format is a relatively new concept IMO. Before that, although it's always been exaggerated eccentricity, there was always a sporting feel to the product, which has been de-emphasised, even in the language used by the company to describe the product (see the lingo thread for more details).

MITB/World Champion Bryan was probably the best look he's had. THIS! This is by far his best main event look.

MITB/World Champion Bryan was probably the best look he's had. This guy looks like a believable main eventer. Right now he just looks homeless. I mean the massive beard is one thing but the unstyled mop of hair is just awful, he looks like he lost a bet.

NO! NO! NO!
Although he's going to have to lose it at some point. I liked someone's idea of having Kane burn it off.

It depends what kind of style you're referring to. The "variety show/ sports entertainment" format is a relatively new concept IMO. Before that, although it's always been exaggerated eccentricity, there was always a sporting feel to the product, which has been de-emphasised, even in the language used by the company to describe the product (see the lingo thread for more details). in the early 90s there were always two or three interview shows with set, guys who had animals, guys who worked other jobs besides wrestling and in the era I'm thinking of stipulation matches were rare and most matches had about as much competition as if the wrestler was facing a crash test dummy. There was a rationale to all that though. The interviews had a sporting feel to them, building characters and feud hype (compare Jake Roberts' stunning promo at Survivor Series 1991 to the inane "cut to the crowd" formulaic interviews on RAW every week). There were no invisible cameras. You didn't see wrestlers on camera plotting every small detail of what they were going to do. This led to more surprises. The "guys with other jobs" were often people like the Big Boss Man and the Undertaker and the Mountie and it gave them a distinct personality, something greatly lacking among many guys today. Jobber matches served two useful purposes. Both in building up momentum, and also keeping the big stars apart until PPV's, as opposed to today where stars face each other so often on TV and PPV's that before long, almost every combination of the roster has faced each other multiple times, making things stale and dull.

He doesn't have to shave it off completely, just trim it down so he looks less like a guy who begs for change and waves his private parts at the traffic.

I don't how gangly it looks on him at the moment. At the very least, he can trim it a little. I think Daniel is at the point though where he doesn't need his beard at all.

The "main event" look Bryan fit with his character at the time. A cold, calculating, delusional douche. His current look fits his character phenomenally well. Wild man hair fits his beast mode moments, and it also fits with his somewhat insane vibe.
