So, LA Noire sounded really fun the other day so I popped it in and am now playing through it for what's got to be the fourth time already. It's one of the only games, of any console or era of games, that I've been able to play through multiple times and still find it fun. However, I'm not well-versed in spy and mystery games, so I was hoping some of big time gamers could recommend me a game (or series or what have you) that's somewhat similar to LA Noire. It doesn't have to be the same time period or anything, but just something revolving around solving mysteries. I know there's got to be some great games out there in this genre, I'm just not aware of them - so I'm hoping the FANs can help me out.

YOU'RE LYING MORGAN!
*Ahem*, anyway, I can't really think of any games that are similar off the top of my head. I will agree that it's an amazing game though. I feel it gets a lot of hate because most people went in expecting another dumb, funny GTA style game and got something intellectually challenging instead.

Heavy Rain has the same hard and gritty story style, but game play is quite different.
Worth a look though

My only gripe with it is that most side missions consisted of "chase down and shoot this guy". More variety would have been nice.

I don't play games but I watch my boyfriend play them and he really like the Saboteur, which is an older game but he played it before L.A. Noir and loved it. They seemed really alike to me.

Alright, I'm definitely going to have to check out Heavy Rain. I'll also give Saboteur a look. Thanks, everybody.

Be warned though Heavy Rain really isn't a game per say... and is more a semi interactive movie... it's hard to explain.

Warning, though, Heavy Rain has some pretty damn bad voice acting, in English at least. The majority of the voice actors are French, so when doing their roles in English they have some thick ass French accents and it just makes some scenes cringeworthy at how poorly delivered the lines are. Yes the game is set in America(Pittsburgh I think), still, play it in French.

I would recommend Heavy Rain as an experience, but please do not set your hopes too high. It has a lot of things that hold it back from being something bigger than what it ends up being. I am not going to say it's terrible or something, as I've seen worse, but you will sometimes wonder what the point of what you are doing is, or get frustrated.

Noire.

Alpha Protocol is an Espionage RPG that plays almost like Metal Gear Solid. Its flawed but really fun, cheap and worth a look. Also Heavy Rain and Indigo Prophecy if you dont mind going back to PS2.

I like Alpha Protocol but I don't know if I'd call it like LA Noire, but it is cheap and has probably the best multi-choice dialogue tree I've seen, forces you to make your choice without leaving the awkward silence of like Mass Effect

"The Walking Dead" by TellTale Games is excellent. It's like Heavy Rain, except the writing makes you care about the characters and their plights. I think it's on PSN, maybe?
