When you grow up watching old WWF with all their basic aisle entrances you pretty much learn to watch for the wrestling. TNA and their generic sets can go take a dive though. that is good production too. best cameras of the time. good lighting. great sound and commentary. great shots. I guess "lack of production" is subjective. to me "lack of production" means lack of attention to video production. to me that really only effects low ends indys.

If they can do better production but choose not to (*cough*TNA*cough*) then it irks me.

If there is bad lighting and I can't see what is going on then I'll have a problem.
One thing that really bugs me is when it sounds like the announcers are announcing not just to those watching on the internet or DVD but also to those in attendance. You can tell the difference in quality between that and how companies like WWE and TNA do it. Plus it doesn't make much sense because if a wrestler is doing something against the rules while the ref's back is turned, the commentary saying so will make the ref look pretty stupid if he doesn't turn around and catch the wrestler.

Yeah, TNA used to be terrible with this like I said earlier abotu the cuts... not to mention the 9 times out of 10 the camera guys would miss teh big spots... like Daniels diving off the cage in one of their war games matches...

It's one of the main reasons I can't watch Indy wrestling. The others being mostly dull & terrible storylines, not enough characters beyond "Serious Wrestler," and the fact that I watch for entertainment rather than sport.

I always preferred WWF to WCW, and part of that was the production. The lighting, theme music, trons all seemed crisper and better in the WWF.

Bad audio bothers me. If things just sound muffled, garbled, distant or delayed, I can't watch it.

I like a certain gloss to it. I don't need WWE levels of lighting at every turn, pyro that rivals centennial celebrations and original music produced in house. But I do need a decent camera, good commentators and at least light the ring and the first fifteen rows well enough for the performers to stand out. Dim smoke filled arenas make you feel dirty just watching it.

It would have to be REALLY bad for me to not want to watch. Like, really shaky camera, blurry, etc. That kind of stuff can give me a headache.
I used to edit video for a couple of different promotions and I was AMAZED at how poorly some of it was shot. I'd have to rely on the hard-cam for a lot of stuff because whoever was shooting with the roaming cams didn't understand basic framing. If you're a fed that televises all your stuff or puts it all on Youtube, you need to have a serious discussion with your camera guys and make sure they know what to do.

Here's an example of bad productions killing good wrestling: I bought the last Heartland Wrestling Association dvd put out. I'm familiar with the promotion and understand the shows on dvd sometimes have a weird yellow tint. But the recent one not only had a massive blue tint but also it had poor lighting. I gave up watching during the first match because it was damn near impossible to watch. Shame because I wanted to see a number of the matches on the dvd.
You don't need a massive budget to have quality production nowadays. I seen promotions who have literally 20 fans in the crowd on the regular produce better looking shows than some of the bigger indies.
