Earlier this year St. Louis Cardinals' announcer AL Hrabosky told a story about when Randy Savage was WWF champion: He was in St. Louis and he wanted to go on the field and take batting practice and talk to some of the guys he had played ball with and against, but Vince wouldn't let him go on the field because there were several ballplayers (most notably Tom Brunansky) that were much bigger than Randy and Vince thought that it would look un-Superstar-like for his WWF Champion to be smaller than baseball players. I'm a Reds fan and this (slightly similar) story really bummed me out: In fact, Randy was planning a rare public appearance. In 1989, he’d been a guest announcer on a Cincinnati Reds radio broadcast and remembered the experience fondly—especially the moment when he stood up and did a muscle shot for the crowd and center fielder Eric Davis stepped out of the dugout and gave the Macho Man the same pose. When Lanny met Reds first baseman Joey Votto at a charity event, the incident came up, and the 2010 National League MVP invited Randy to a June 2011 game against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field. Among the incentives: VIP batting practice privileges. Randy agreed to go. But he died five weeks before the game.

Speaking of Savage and baseball does anyone remember during the baseball strike in the 90s when WWF did this ad where a kid is at a baseball field alone and sad when out of nowhere Randy Savage comes up to him and plays ball with him and then the announcer talks about how the WWF doesn't go on strike?

I remember that very well. "Hey kid!" "MACHO MAN?!" "Let's hit a few!" I think the tag line was "Our Season Never Ends"

This reminds me of something Vince would do/say today if CM Punk wanted to take batting practice with the Cubs or something.

The late Reds announcer Joe Nuxhall ("...rounding third and headed for home.") was a wrestling fan (Joe once said, "Believe in the WWF. You're not a good American otherwise.") and knew Randy from his days as a minor-leaguer with the team. Randy appeared (in full "Macho Man" regalia) and tore up a Hulk Hogan poster.

Sadly, its faked, there's no #661 in the 1974 topps series (which is where this card supposedly came from). What?! You mean to tell me that all these cards I just bought are fakes??? DAMN YOU DON WEST!!! Hey, at least they were cheap....in price and quality.

Besides Ernie Ladd, are there any other wrestlers who had sports cards for their pre-wrestling days? A Brian Pillman or Duane Johnson card would be interesting to see.

There is a Dwayne Johnson college card created by Bumble-Bee Tuna for the '94 Miami (FL) Hurricanes. Also, a John Layfield ProSet football card when he was on the WLAF's San Antonio Riders. (Could have sworn there was a Bill Goldberg card, also in the WLAF with Orlando but I couldn't find it.) And every one of them had this on their respective search pages: How soon you all forget Wahoo.
