From the other thread
FOX Sports' Jon Paul Morosi reports that the Braves are among the teams "actively pursuing" Bud Norris.

Stephen Strasburg: 8 IP 2 H 1 R 12 K 0 BB Loss That could also just as easily be Chris Sale's line. Reportedly, 10 teams scouted Jake Peavy in his start Thursday; although admittedly, some were there to scout Alex Rios. (I knew there was a reason Peavy chose to wear the 1983 throwback unis yesterday. I believe he felt he wouldn't be there come the usual Throwback Sunday.) Jake admits some of his bags are already packed. Jesse Crain experienced an "uncomfortable feeling" while playing catch in warm-ups. He may not be able to pitch before the Non-Waiver Trade Deadline, which will most-likely drop his value and interest from other teams. And, for some reason, the White Sox hit the pause button on a deal that would send Alexei Ramirez to St. Louis. It's not because of the prospect the Cards were offering in return, as they would be trading Carlos Martinez.

I don't think the Cards need to do anything, but I wouldn't mind it if they upgraded offensively at SS. But replacing Pete Kozma's 1 home run on the season with Ramirez' 1 home run on the season doesn't sound good enough to trade away a guy who has the potential to be a front line starter.

Everyone is saying that the Cards are better off without Pujols? How true is this? He WAS the franchise and he made the Cards a powerhouse.

If the Mets sweep the doubleheader with the Nats today, and if the Phillies lose, then the New York Mets will be six games under .500...and second place in the NL East. Strange days, indeed. That said, Jenry Mejia is facing Zimmerman in game 1 this afternoon, so my hopes aren't high for that game. I feel for Mejia; he was the Mets' biggest pitching prospect during the Omar Minaya regime, but the Minaya crew were freaking awful at developing prospects, constantly rushing them to the big league level (when their supervisor wasn't challenging them to fist fights). Mejia was a product of that flawed way of thinking, and he's had injuries and inconsistency to show for it. Minaya's people did draft Matt Harvey in 2010, but I'm convinced that if they hadn't all been swept away, Harvey never would've developed the way he did under the current front office. At least Mejia's only 23, so he still has time to make something of himself. Again, though, having to face Zimmerman today isn't the best recipe for a quick start on that. Everyone is saying that the Cards are better off without Pujols? How true is this? He WAS the franchise and he made the Cards a powerhouse. ...What exactly are the Cardinals now, chopped liver? Pujols is older now, wearing down, getting injured more often, and isn't the force that he once was. Instead of dropping all that extra cash on him, St. Louis pocketed it, got an extra draft pick, and used the savings to address multiple positions in the lineup/rotation instead of just one. Pujols is still a fine player, but the Cards did the right thing.

Do you miss Pujols? I mean, does it hurt knowing that he plays for someone else and isn't another lifelong Card like Musial?

Do you miss Pujols? I mean, does it hurt knowing that he plays for someone else and isn't another lifelong Card like Musial? At the time he left, a lot of Cards fans were miffed mostly because he was a franchise face that gave St. Louis a lot of national attention. But another chunk of the fanbase was really bothered about the price tag he put on himself, and more people than you might think were saying "let him go, we can use the money elsewhere". In retrospect, John Mo's gamble paid off. The Cards farm system is loaded now, hence the consistency you're seeing down the stretch, and Molina for the most part seems to be becoming the new "face" of the team (similar to how Ozzie Smith, another defensive whiz, replaced Keith Hernandez after he hopped to NY). And as mentioned, Albert- while still productive- isn't the terror he was before and is way too banged up these days. Him constantly coming to STL back for his charity golf tourney's made the split a lot more amicable also.

Let's see how long Molina remains as the face of the franchise before he bolts for a $200M contract.
I really like Matheny, though, so I'm glad to see him enjoying success.

Yadier-@#$%ing-Molina (sorry, that's how Mets fans have to refer to him) won't get a contract that large. He's on the wrong side of 30 and plays the most physically taxing position on the field. Now, now, Keith didn't "hop" anywhere...The White Rat exiled him in 1983, and paid the price for it a few years later.

So the Soriano deal is now official. The Cubs get single A pitcher Corey Black. Soriano is owed 24.5 million over the rest of the season and next. The Yankees will pay 6.8 of it and the Cubs get the rest.

I wouldn't want him playing in the field unless necessary, but Soriano will be a solid DH especially for this Yankees team. Wonder what number he'll get as Vernon Wells has 12, though if they release or trade Hafner he can get 33 back.

Jennry Mejia's 2013 debut: 7IP, 7H, 7K, 0BB, 97 pitches.
I grudgingly say this, but the Mets might have themselves a damn good team sooner rather than later. Especially on the pitching side.

Especially on the pitching side. we still need that guy in the lineup who makes pitchers say "Holy Shit" and is capable of belting 40hrs. Ike Davis is no longer a long term option at first and neither is tejada at short. But starting Pptching could be lethal if Wheeler, Montero, Mejia and Syndergard all pan out behind Harvey.

Now that the Rays have taken a 50-0 on the Yankees (Actually 5-0), I wonder if Girardi will fancy taking out CC before he gets to 100 pitches?
Probably not.
