He used to have such a good look. I personally preferred his Snidely Whiplash La Resistance days. Shame he ruined it with those tattoos. Also, anyone remember his like, one match on ECW? Is that the one where he wore all white with no kneepads? I thought he looked so awesome like that. Yes! Googling it, he actually had two matches, a squash against Balls Mahoney, then jobbing to a rising CM Punk. I thought that was an awesome look. He had awesome looking hair. Also, the French Tickler was the best thing ever.

Having "Japan" written on you like that is weird. He should have "France" written on him. He has a framed poster of Asia at home. They're his favorite band.

Here's a pretty recent match of his from the end of April of this year. Looks like he got a giant back tattoo as well.

Sometimes the E is right with wanting to manufacture their wrestlers looks. He looked like a star in the WWE. Now, I won't insult his look, as I support a persons free will to tattoo themselves as they see fit, but he doesn't look like a marquee star anymore. He's made himself into a generic looking tapout guy.

I kind of feel bad for Dupree. He was exposed way too early, especially when it came to his single's push. He never stood a chance.
I mentioned this before, but I went to a Smackdown house show in mid 2005, which had a lot of problems in the sense that a lot of guys seemed out of it, but the key 2 people who looked insanely f***ed up were Eddie Guerrero and Rene Dupree. Both were WAY too goddamn big for their bodies and both looked like they were suffering from the flu, which I no doubt attribute to drug abuse. We saw what happened with Eddie and I truly believed at the time that Rene was wrestling's next ticking time bomb. Seriously, TV didn't do justice to the size of Dupree...the dude was enormous.

I dug Rene's facial hair he was sporting for a bit of his brief ECW run, and thought the man had potential prior to that on Smackdown...but yeah, he's definitely got some demons and he's made some questionable life choices.
For reference, the reason why he's got Japan tatted on his chest is because apparently he became a massive otaku while over there. I'm not even kidding. I've read and listened to numerous interview from other talent that was touring with him at the time that said he became obsessed with everything Japan. Anime, the movies, the shows, the culture, the food, everything.
Which is a little surreal to think of that guy geeking out over, I don't know, f***ing Gundams.

I had no idea he's had tough times since leaving the WWE, though.

Sad this guy has been through so much crap, and isn't even 30 yet; whether it's his fault or not. Kind of helps you understand the WWE not wanting people who are "too young" on the main roster. Yeah, this. Can't believe he looks like that now and he's 29. Insane. He looks rotten.

He was way too green. They should've let him develop in OVW unil around 2006/7 and seen what he could do.
Had Chris Masters not debuted, he would've been a good choice for the masterpiece gimmick.
It's a shame he was brought in to have a stupid French sympathizer gimmick that lost a ton of steam about a month after the whole USA backlash of France in 2003.

I've read and listened to numerous interview from other talent that was touring with him at the time that said he became obsessed with everything Japan. Anime, the movies, the shows, the culture, the food, everything. I understand the obsession thing. I came to Japan for what was supposed to be a six week vacation. That was in 2006. I've been here ever since. And while it wasn't so much the "anime" and "tv shows" so much as "the culture of politeness" and "general lack of cynicism and sarcasm", I get it. There are people who come to this country and go "Yes. This is where I belong." BUT, those tattoos, man! Where do I start? First, let me clear up a bit of a misconception. There are VERY few people in Japan would would see those tattoos and think "yakuza". Having a tattoo does not brand you as yakuza. Having YAKUZA TATTOOS (the shoulder thing, the full body art, the "zebra suit" etc, THOSE will make people think "yakuza"...unless you're showing them off in public. Most (not all, but most) yakuza don't just walk around showing off their ink. It's complicated. But that's not my point. My point is that tattoos are not, in literally any way, shape, or form, culturally acceptable in Japan. So the idea of getting a tattoo that says JAPAN across your upper arm and torso because you like the culture...is oxymoronic at best. It would be like showing your appreciation of Jewish culture by getting an SS tattoo on your chest. ALL of that said, I was a fan of the guy when he debuted. I don't think I ever had a problem watching him. I wish him nothing but the best, and I'm always happy to hear about another gaikokujin falling in love with my adopted country.
