Faggot insults everybody. More than any word even the n-word. Funny how it isn't censored here. And with one observation, you have now understood the true folly of political correctness, and how it is different from basic human decency, inasmuch as the former is not a graduated yardstick that measures offensiveness by converting demographic data into an "Indignation Quotient" or some such. Just because someone may freely call someone a "faggot" doesn't necessarily mean he hates gay people. If we want to be "equal", we shouldn't expect to be coddled and have the whole world walk on eggshells around us. Very, very enlightened. If that logic held, anyone who used 'lame' as a generic pejorative would be insensitive to the physically handicapped, anyone who used 'absurd' as suchwould be insensitive to the deaf, 'retarded' to the mentally handicapped, etc. I personally would not use any of those as a blank pejorative, but that is for the same reasons I would not use the 100% benign 'niggardly' -- out of anticipation out of how it would be perceived by those unwilling to consider context, not out of some moral compunction.

for f***sake they're just words For the record folks, I really, really don't agree with this line of thinking. Let me clarify my own feelings here. I understand the point about propagating hateful speech, I'm not disputing that. I'm not even saying it's okay to use the word. I'm just saying that using a homophobic slur and BEING a homophobe are completely different things. I use the word 'faggot' in an extremely close-knit circle of friends, not because we consider calling someone a homosexual to be an insult, but because it's intended as a parody of the kind of people we went to school with who'd be all about sports, call everything gay, call you a faggot for having emotions, etc. We are not ourselves homophobes, we use it to make fun of people who are - and only within that select group, numerous members of which are homosexual or bisexual, and if those people in particular aren't offended by it, and no one who is offended by it is hearing us say it, I fail to see why it's a problem. I would never use the word in anger, whether the person I was angry at was homosexual or otherwise.

I can't believe that there are seriously people who go "When we use a word for an entire group of people to mean something negative, we're not insulting that group of people."
Seriously.
Seriously?

I wouldn't say it's that simple. And besides, even if I was to accept that, it still wouldn't make us homophobes by any stretch of the imagination.

When a person say you are a faggot
He isn't demeaning a group of people.
He is demeaning that person.
If he says "you are a fag, stop listening to such bad music and stop being so moody"
Bashing a person
"you are just like all the other faggots taking it up the ass and trying to spread your disgusting lifestyle"
That is hate speech of a different kind
I use fag to demean people, but i use it for rare occasions

Guys, stop.
What you're discussing right now is an incredibly complex issue that deals with matters pertaining to language, history, social science, personal experiences and feelings, and various other aspects that mean that one-sentence/one-paragraph instant reactions aren't going to do the discussion justice.
Given that this is the wrestling part of the forum, I'd advise us all to back off the topic and save it for a more appropriate time and place.
EDIT: I don't mean to say don't discuss the OP, of course. Just save the bigger issues for a better time and place.

in all honesty it was pretty overblown. he reacted to the question more with shock rather than disgust, and it was the interviewer who threw a bitch fit and kept cutting people off. Agreed, that particular incident (can't speak to the others) smackedless of bigotry, and more outright surprise. Like it was the last thing in the world AJ expected to hear.

Honest to God, this is one of my favorite images ever. It was literally one of the first things I saw when I first found the original forum over on Wrestlecrap.

I feel like AJ Styles is someone I SHOULD find attractive, but I just don't.

I'm with this party, he sounded entirely shocked but not disgusted.

I feel like AJ Styles is someone I SHOULD find attractive, but I just don't. I'm with you there. I like the shorts. That's about it. On topic, "The Gay Community" has been taken out of context. It'd be like if I were to randomly mention "Hey, you have a big following with Pakistanian House wives" during an interview. Being shocked does not make you racist again the.

Nah, I like clean cut, 20-something to early 30s "man boys" who look like they could pose for.a calendar. I know it sounds stereotypical and over-idealistic, but I'm pickier with men than I am with women.

I feel like AJ Styles is someone I SHOULD find attractive, but I just don't. The tattoo kind-of lowered his stock, but I'd still hit it.

This thread makes me miss those lengthy Gay Community threads.
