I DID lose all of my saved data about a month ago when my PS3 died. And it was the old model that still had backward compatibility, which means I lost all my PS and PS2 data as well. Add in that I was in the process of completing the last eight missions in the Injustice Star Lab and unlocking Flash's last outfit and... well I didn't throw a chair, so I guess I would have had to be a 6.

Ugh!
This happened to my PS3 recently. I turned it on and it said the file system was corrupted and needed to restored. So I did, and same thing again.
Then I tried a disk recovery a couple of times but that just went on for hours, and I suspect it was not working. So I had to do a full system restore (back to factory settings basically) and lost everything.
The upside, I was not deep into any story centric game at the time, so the only game I had to really start over was GRID 2. And having a PS account and I could easily get back any DLC I had purchased from the PSN store. But still annoying. Hoping that future consoles have like a Cloud like save system like you get on some smart phone games.
I suspect the cause of corruption was the Play TV. It was the last thing that used the PS3 before it happened. Play TV is a handy feature if you don't have a TIVO or HDD unit. But it's buggy, get picture freezes at the start of recordings, scheduled recordings would vanish from the schedule, and if you link a series it would end up recording the wrong thing. Also it turns the PS3 on and off when a recording begins and ends (in standby mode), so I'm guessing that messed up the file system. So I don't use the PlayTV anymore.
In fact the PS3 is solely for playing games now.

I have a FarmVille farm and a town in Animal Crossing that have both been around for a few years. It would tick me off to lose those. All the rest of my games I could care less about.
