But...wait.
He was going to HAVE to take it off to wrestle anyway, so how was REVEALING HIS IDENTITY WHEN HE FELL part of why people mock the debut?

Maybe he was so smooth in the ring that he could do it blindfolded. Damn that gimmicked wall.

Because it's not exactly a huge, shock of a reveal when he's lying facedown having tripped through a wall?
IT'S ME AUSTIN *trips over gown, falls out the ring and the camera zooms in on Vince's concussed face with snot and blood running from his nose*.
Well that's fine he was gonna show his face anyway.

He might have ended up in a less restrictive mask, but they didn't bother with it when he fell on his helmet.
Of course, I don't think the geniuses in WCW creative hadn't thought that far anyway.

Even had the reveal went perfectly, Ottman in glittery stormtrooper mask was never gonna get over.
If anything, him falling made things far more memorable than they woulda been.

It's been about 20 years and we still reference it. Had everything gone perfectly, he most likely would've been used for the match... they'd TRY to put him over as much as possible. He may have had about a month of real pops, then would've been on jobber duty until they could repackage him or cut him loose. He'd be just as memorable as Loch Ness or The Juicer.

I was mad that we didn't get Hawk in the final spot.

I wasn't really following WCW at the time but I do remember him wrestling later on dressed as a construction worker. I never really understood where the change came from as a goofy Star Wars knock-off outfit to a construction worker.

Hell, that was nothing compared to Cheatum the Evil Midget who blew up boats for fun.

Had everything gone perfectly, he most likely would've been used for the match... Unless I'm mistaken wasn't he still used in the match and the whole debut f*** up just completely over-shadowed it?

My favorite thing about it is still Ole Anderson on the voice box, trying not to laugh.
