I wonder what the cable/satellite companies were paying for the Speed channel.

Dropping it down to 23 cents was the only way for the providers to even get the channel.

Well I'll be damned! I actually get this channel. And by that I mean, I can watch it as part of my current cable package. I knew about the Speed Channel but never bothered to watch because (a) I'm not a NASCAR fan and (b) I assumed Comcast threw it onto a higher tier. When I tuned to channel 271 a few minutes ago, I fully expected to see the "not authorized" screen.
Right now you can tell it's in transition mode because the program guide lists all timeslots as "SPEED/FOX SPORTS 1 PROGRAMMING."

I still am unsure if WOW cable is carrying it. They better be carrying FXX in HD. From what I understand is that it's replacing Fox Sports Soccer, which I only get in SD. The League & Sunny will be on FXX, so you better not screw me WOW!
Edit: Not sure if I get Speed. Didn't realize that was the channel. If I do, I don't think it's currently in HD.

Honestly, with the line-up they have, it already looks pretty second rate from the start.
I'm going to give them a chance at least.

I think it's hard for any national sports network to pop up. ESPN is such a brand at this point. Plus it doesn't help that each major sport has their own network now. So if you're an avid baseball fan, you can just watch MLB Network for your coverage. Same with NFL, NBA and NHL. So it has nothing to do with quality because most people know ESPN is piss poor quality as much as in this day and age you can watch a channel that's purely focused on bringing you the best of your favorite sport. Heck, I barely even watch ESPN. I watch NBC Sports Network for Dan Patrick Show and that's about it. I am sure I will give Fox Sports 1 a shot, but unless they offer a product that's way, way better than anything else on TV, I will likely stick to watching the League based Networks for my sports coverage.

I can't for the life of me understand why we need another sports network, and I say this as a big sports fan. I've been seeing commercials for Fox Sports 1 for what seems like forever and I haven't bothered even checking to see if its on my cable package. What are they supposed to bring to the table that would make me want to watch it?

And the clowns at the Pac 12 network want Directv to pay 80 cents per subscriber? Though they did manage to convince Dish and Comcast to do it. Not sure how they pulled off that sort of trickery.

Not too mention that in many major markets individual TEAMS have their own channel. Around here there's a channel that's pretty much all Bruins and Red Sox, and fishing

And yet I don't get it thru DISH since I just have the basic "America's Top 120" package and the lowest one it's included in is 2 packages above mine......

So, I haven't heard too much about this channel. Is it basically Fox' version of ESPN? Are they showing NFL or MLB games? I keep seeing the hype for it, I just don't know what it's all about. If it's easier to give me a link to explain it, I'll take that. Thanks!

Yeah, I've already got Fox Sports Midwest for my Cardinal game fix, MLB Network for the rest of the league and ESPN for general news. That's about all the sports TV I watch (unless it's Olympic season).
