Slight bump because I wanted to see people's opinions on it after a few weeks (And that we got news that How I Met Your Dad isn't happening)
I've watched a few of the older episodes at times as sometimes there is nothing else on and it has had an impact how you view things. For instance Ted getting dumped at the alter? No sympathy now as he obviously was in love with Robin the whole time and whoever he did marry was a consolation prize and I do honestly get angrier every time I think about it
I can't remember ever being this annoyed at a finale for quite some time. I don't consider myself a hard to please viewer, normally I'm happy or I go "Well it's was slightly disappointing but oh well"

The Mother was amazing, but of course we had to get Ted and Robin with The Mother being nothing more than a uterus. Considering the massive backlash against the HIMYM finale, it's not surprising Dad isn't getting picked up.

Either this was hastily put together after the outright hostile reaction, or they shot this and somehow still figured the weird mess they went with would be better.

It's weird; as much as I do still love the show, and as much as I used to watch the re-runs, the finale turned me off so much I haven't had any desire to re-visit the show since.

It is schmultzy, yes, but I think it really captures the idea of how random things are, how decisions make us who we are and how the unexpected challenges of life really can lead to something better. The previous one just said "Your first love is really the one you should end up with, just make sure you find a side love to give you whatever the first love can't." I mean, I think it's great that they took a risk with the finale, not a lot of shows really do that anymore, not in the whole St. Elsewhere/Newhart way where they decide to come out of left field. But it was so clumsily done and rendered the character as nothing more than a plot convenience that it was impossible for me to get behind it. She might as well have been a mail-order bride the way they did it.

It actually kind of makes me feel better about the show. Hell, it doesn't mean the other ending couldn't have also happened, but yeah, I prefer this.

This ending is so much better.
Yes, unexpected finales can be great but the premise of this show, especially given the length of time it was on, really didn't allow for the finale route they chose (at least where it pertains specifically to The Mother). After nine years, you want a happy ending with Tracy, not a sad ending for her and another shot at love with Robin.
I didn't hate the finale nearly as much as other people, but I do think the choice they made lacked a certain warmth that this ending captured. Sure it's a little schmaltzy (great word) but TED is schmaltzy.

But Ted and Robin were broken up for a few seasons with the idea hammered they were never going to get back together again while they made Robin more unlikeable while they promised The Mother to be perfect and they delivered on that made it worse. Especially on how fast they killed her off and how nonchalant the kids sounded. Like the show is called How I Met Your Mother. Everyone just wanted a heart warming tale how he met the mother. Nothing more. It was already depressing and unpredictable enough that Barney and Robin getting divorced making the last season pointless and Robin distancing away herself from the group to the point they haven't seen her in years. Hell everyone was miserable in that finale outside of Marshall

Still prefer the original ending tbh.
I just didn't like how the Mother was an afterthought and seemingly the only reason she existed was to give Ted some kids. But generally I was fine with the Mother being dead and Ted deciding he wanted to have another crack at Robin.

Hell everyone was miserable in that finale outside of Marshall I'll agree to that, honestly, I was never of Robin as a character, but they dragged her and Ted's character development for so long that the finale felt really out of place. Then the last couple seasons were really building up to the wedding, which was nullified in the first half hour of the finale. If they'd kept a set end date for a few seasons and stuck with it, it wouldn't have been such a kick.

It really wouldn't have been that bad if they announced the mother was dead at least 10 minutes before the show ended and how nonchalant the kids were. Like that's all they can say after spending hours hearing the story in that tone of voice? Like they could of build something up instead rather then this "OH YEAH MOM IS DEAD LOLZ." "DAD U HAVE HOTZ FOR AUNT ROBIN!" "K CAN I DATE HER KIDZ!" "LOL ITS BEEN LIKE 6 YEARZ! f*** MOM AUNT ROBIN IS KEWL!" "ME GUSTA!" *The End*

All they had to do was end it that way, and they'd have stuck the landing.
