Great episode. It was funny, but dramatic, had some fun moralising, told a story, set up some interesting characters and threw out a few mysteries. Only thing missing would have been a shadowy big bad tease. They kind of teased it with the girl that was saved at the beginning. She wasn't caught, so she's still around. There was also the Chitauri technology, and mentioning someone looking to sell it. Chitauri technology, and a Joss Whedon show? It's time for Alexis Denisof to make an appearance.

......... {Spoiler}...he's an LMD, isn't he? {Spoiler} Yes. I think he is. He can never know..... Can someone explain this to me? My dog decided that that particular moment was the perfect time to bark at absolutely nothing for no reason and I totally missed it.

I really hope this does well so next fall we can get Hogwarts Groundkeeper Academy,Hirgons errand riding Institute and Wayne Enterprises Accounting Department. If the news is true we are going to get a Jim Gordon series soon I'd mark for the Adventures of Perry White. It could be the next Lou Grant.

My dog decided that that particular moment was the perfect time to bark at absolutely nothing for no reason and I totally missed it. {Spoiler} The doctor who was saying everyone was clear bar the techs was saying he wanted Coulson to take it easy, Coulson said no, he'd had his rest in Tahiti, then left.
The doctor then turned to Maria Hill and said something like 'Tahiti? He doesn't know?" and she replied "No, he can never know."
This has led people to assume he actually did die and this Coulson is a LMD, a Life Model Decoy, which in the Marvel world is a robot doppleganger that may not know it is a robot so that people can be in several places at once. Doctor Doom uses them quite often, known as Doom-bots and Nick Fury (non black version) has one that is sentient, calls itself Max, calls himself Fury's brother is a robot rights terrorist.

It's not exactly traditional foreshadowing, but a neat nod.

Ruined him? Or just made Ben Kingsley the f***** bomb? Also I hate myself for missing the show tonight. Damn you Spanish Exam! No me gusta el examen! The former. Imagine if Liam Neeson wasn't the real Ra's and it was some WACKY COMEDIAN. Or if Heath Ledger was basically an embittered stage magician like Cesar Romero's Joker. They basically buried one of Iron Man's few really distinct villains so they could get Guy Pearse over. And no, his throwaway line about being the "real" Mandarin doesn't count. Really, none of the Iron Men movies were that great except for the first one. However... {Spoiler} I'll wait to see if they use Extremis better than IM3 did. And AIM maybe? Also, didn't Tony Stark figure out how you can use it without it being unstable, which is how he cured himself and Pepper? Wouldn't he, you know, tell anyone else? Or are they giving Not-or-maybe-Cage's treatment a bootleg feel to it? I need a second watch to "get" everything. Anglophile that I am, I did like Fitz-Simmons. And I know Ron Glass was in there! I didn't pay enough attention to see who he was! Any thoughts on The Goldbergs? I was expecting it to be a nice period piece in general, but it's like the first half had That '80s Show Syndrome by stuffing in all the cultural references they can to remind people "Hey! This is the '80s!" I lost interest by the last third of the show, really. Give me The Middle and Modern Family anyday as far as ABC comedies go. More likable characters there. I might like Rebel Wilson's new show, cause, well, it's Rebel Wilson. Also waiting for Raising Hope to restart, dammit!

Last night's episode was pretty good. I'm really looking forward to episode 3 if some of the rumors I'm hearing about it are true.

I dunno, man.
For a show that had decent promos, I thought The SHIELD pilot was ass. I'm not any more interested in a lot of these characters than I was when the show first started, but that I'll partially blame on them focusing on Generic Badass Agent Bland whose snark and possible backstory is probably not going to make me care to watch him.
And I'mma need this entire Skye character to be something that doesn't strike me as a total sham. No, she doesn't pull off that she's the type of character who was into being all into finding "truth" nor does anything about her strike me as someone who had the mad skillz to hack circles around SHIELD. Now, that's a writing and possibly an actor problem. As of now, I'm calling bullshit on her entire character.
I think this show is way too far into this cartoon shit, especially with the story behind the juice powering Not!LukeCage and I rolled my eyes at the end with Coulson's car. It's just like...yeah, show. You're connected to the movies. Give the shit a rest and stop trying so hard, man.
Coulson and the supporting characters were as close to a saving grace as could be considering the weak episode. They could be salvageable. I'mma stay with it for a couple of episodes. I care enough about some of the minor characters, and J. August acted his ass off in the end, to at least give it until episode 3.

I heartily enjoyed it. It nailed the Marvel vibe perfectly and had a few nice nods to the movies.

Jed stated in an interview last week that using the term "Mutant" is completely off limits to the show.

I really liked the pilot, and my dad who isn't a comic book guy loved it. His favorite part was that they didn't have the show take itself entirely serious like they could have. Jed stated in an interview last week that using the term "Mutant" is completely off limits to the show. Yeah, I'm guessing since this takes place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe they don't want to use mutant on the show then be banned from uttering it during the movies themselves due to fox owning the rights, Also I went to the LMD theory for Phil at first... But then I remembered someone else posing a theory post-avengers that maybe he's Vision.... Or since this ties into the movies... Maybe he's really Ultron

I for one have to say its so nice that Detective Harris has moved up in the world, from working under Barney Miller to now being a Shield agent! good work Ron Glass!!! thats quite a promotion! It's not his first turn as an Agent under Joss Wheedon.

It's time for Alexis Denisof to make an appearance. I'm surprised he wasn't cast as one of the principal cast. Joss loves the guy (with good reason) and there's no reason why he couldn't play two characters given he is totally unrecognisable as The Other.

Just a thought: given that they actually are intertwining this with the overall MCU, we should keep our eyes peeled for any references to the creation of Ultron...
