If you lived in Australia, you'd be terrified of spiders too. To be fair, I'd be afraid of everything if I lived in Australia.

Never really been bothered by spiders myself. Always seemed like any other insect sized animal. I think a childhood of constantly seeing cobwebs and the occasional spider in the basement dampered any fears I had of them. I even let my friend's pet tarantula crawl on my hands and arms once, which was cool.

Spiders stopped being scary to me the moment I laid my eyes upon one of these: {Spoiler}

Strange thing is, I happily held a Tarantula in the palm of my hand and was completely relaxed about it. But if the common house spider so much as brushed against me I would probably freak out like a little schoolgirl

I think it has something to do with all of them having a certain amount of venom. That and the fact they can easily get into our homes...crawling around has something to do with it. That and there are so many different spiders too plays a part of it. The average person sees a spider and they don't know anything about it which leads to fear and them taking the nearest object and squishing it.

This is exactly how I am...I don't find taratulas majorly scary but big house spiders s**t me up. Take Arachnophobia...the big spiders in the movie seemed nowhere near as scary as the normal looking offspring!

They're a pair of wings away from being the most terrifying things that ever existed. No seriously, when spiders fly, I'm done. Crane Flies are close enough for me.

Spiders in general don't really scare me. Don't get me wrong, if I see one in my house or anywhere near me I'm killing it. Jumping spiders are awesome though.

They're strange looking and can cause serious issues depending on what type of spider they are. That's why I don't care for them.
I won't jump on a chair like you would see on an old Tom and Jerry cartoon but they do make me itch a bit.

Some of you guys mentioned tarantulas getting a free pass. I think it might be because they look a little closer to a regular animal. Their hair looks kind of like fur, and their movement doesn't look as bizarre as regular house spiders. Plus you look bad ass holding one.

I'm not too worried about spiders unless it's a garden spider or something bigger.

Spiders have never bothered me other than this huge one I saw once. However, I am terrified of katydids and praying mantises (or whatever the plural is of that).
