Yes I am Happy. No need to waste good matches up and down the card on free tv. A few each show, but more that is saved for ppv the better. I have never understood this argument. How someone can complain about getting PPV quality matches on free TV is beyond me. I never buy PPVs, they're just an utter rip-off so the fact the WWE does tend to have a selection of quality matches on free TV is perfect. I honestly wouldn't watch if it was just 2-3 hours of extended squash matches with no purpose at all.

The Wyatt's were on stage supporting breast cancer. We're done folks Supporting cancer sounds like the ultimate heel thing to do in my book.

Too much of a good thing can get to the point where you're desensitized, at least that's how I see it. There's a middle ground between nothing but squash matches and nothing happening and 3 kickass PPV quality matches on Raw a week. Being 3 hours though, Raw needs to have some quality action to keep the show moving.

But part of the reason that PPV cards can be seen as rip offs is that you have seen that match many times for free. And yea the selection of matches are good until you realize that they blow through good fueds too fast. I mean how many times did we get Dolph and Kofi on free TV during their feud? Every once and while is fine but that was ran down too hard. If say they only faced each other at the PPV and one Raw between and the rest is Kofi vs 3MB teams or Dolph vs whatever the hell the Hornswaggle type group is with run ins and story elements to keep the feud going. That way they can save the better match of the feud AKA Kofi vs Doplh for higher level card like a Special Raw or a PPV. Or using the old Hogan way of booking. Why constantly give away something that you can make big bucks on?

But there is no reason to just give us boring, filler, jobber matches with no purpose. The Corporation vs Team Bryan feud has been booked very well in regards to matches. The PPV end match is of course Bryan vs Orton/Bryan vs Trips. Yet throughout the feud, we're getting good matches that actually have a purpose with The Shield facing other guys involved in the feud which helps to build the feud, gives us good tv matches and, keeps the Bryan vs Orton/Triple H payoff match for the PPV (as it should be). Likewise, the early stages of the feud where the WWE built it up by having Bryan involved in a mini feud with Barrett. Again, giving us a bunch of good TV matches without the need for having Bryan & Cena face each other on free tv. Kofi vs Ziggler was just badly booked. But in the current era, there are plenty of ways to build feuds and rivalries, give us good tv matches without resorting to just filling the show up with pointless jobber matches.

But lets be honest the Current era as we know it was created by Bischoff in a time of war. IE little to no jobber matches and free TV for alot of stuff. Up to that point even at WWF's high water prior to that they did fine with jobber matches. Now I agree JUST no name jobber matches are too much. But there needs to be a mix from the old 80s days to the idea that people have held in the post Bischoff era of no jobbers or filler matches. And once again Im not calling for Johnny beergut facing Santino type matches, but Del Rio beating the likes of Ryder to show off his skills and arrogance is good.

They could just start making you care about the lower half of the roster so that their matches aren't looked at as "pointless jobber matches".

I understand what Cactus Fraggle is trying to say.
Last Spring I was watching Raw, I think the upcoming match was like Kofi/Dolph or Kofi/Swagger or something. I remember thinking before it started "I bet they'll have a good match." From what I understand they did, I think they even had an appreciation thread the day after. But I just hit the fast-forward button and skipped it with the thought process that the match had no inkling of a build, no title was on the line, there weren't any title or personal ramifications at all. It was having a 3 and 3 quarter star match... for the sake of having a 3 and 3 quarter star match.
It's like the analogy "if a tree falls in the woods and nobody hears it, does it make a sound?" Can you still have a good match if nobody cares? Why invest time and emotion into a match if there isn't anything on the line? At least with jobber matches, you know what you're getting.

I didnt see the show but judging by the results I just read sounds like only two of the matches on the card even fit this definition?
I agree with Catch Us Miz though squash matches aren't a great idea when it comes to regular roster members. It makes no kayfabe sense that guys that are squashed constantly are still under regular employment. You want these guys to be somewhat credible. A match like Ryder vs Del Rio should be won by Del Rio, but it should be competitive. Same with Punk vs Langston. True squashes should only happen with the no name jobbers brought in for just the show.
But I agree we also don't need to be blowing high quality matches between two guys on the same level of the card (especially in the main event) on free tv epecially special episodes. Its just not good story building. Overexposure is one of the main problems in WWE now anyway. Noone feels special with 6 or whatever hours of TV a week plus one pay per view a month. You need to keep the top guys out of the ring on free TV for the most part. Make it a special thing that you announce ahead of time and hype up that Punk or Cena or even Del Rio are wrestling on live TV, and have it be in a match with someone lower on the card that they can put on a good match with but win. For the most part save matches between top guys for pay per views. It will draw more PPV revenue if PPV is seen as the only place you can see all the top guys wrestling. If I had my way guys like Punk and Bryan and Orton and Cena wouldn't even appear live at the arena every episode. Gives them time off and decreases the really serious over exposure issues. Suddenly their appearance is a lot more special.

I honestly wouldn't watch if it was just 2-3 hours of extended squash matches with no purpose at all. For me its because proper story build and tension building and avoiding over exposure and making the top stars special all > the instant gratification of a high quality match on free TV. I'm not saying every main event caliber match needs to be on PPV, special episodes are fine too . No but really they can happen, it just needs to be a lot less often honestly. I mean... the monday night wars are over. There's not THAT Much of a need for free TV to be a huge draw anymore. Thats why the current model existed in the first place really. I understand we can't go fully back to the old way, and we shouldn't. But there's a balance point to be reached. I would prefer the WWE do what I consider to be proper roster management, proper booking and feud building, ect. Plus... I honestly enjoy the product more when I see the WWE having good business sense. I actually legitimately enjoy the product less when they do things that I feel are bad for business. I care about that stuff and its what I watch wrestling for, honestly much more than the matches themselves. And uh... if anything the "no purpose at all" is the crash TV mindset of putting PPV quality matches without much build or purpose or importance on free TV all the time. Squash matches DO have a purpose, though again I'm not advocating for full squashes anyway. Plus oh LORD when every match on every show has something directly to do with the feud that wrestler is in its so boring to me because the matchups are so boring like its the same people facing off every show. This style provides for a lot more unique matchups!

Monday Night Raw has turned into WWF Superstars from the 90s. Is........is this meant to be a bad thing? Because it doesn't read like it's a bad thing at all.

It's one thing that I think is the biggest example of nostalgia-colored glasses. I'd much rather not go back to that time.

I think you should save the "I hope you're all happy" posts for when everything gets all "Attitude Era-ish" again(if it ever happens).
