I live in a town of about 1000 people and we average about 1 murder about every 15 years (all murder in the last 100 years is exclusively "passion" murders. AKA husband shoots dude plowing his wife. One of these included 3 people back in the 1950's throwing the numbers out of wack). that's about 6.6 rate per 100,000 people.

New York City is somewhere around 6.4 per 100,000


According to numbers my town where nobody even locks their doors is a god damned warzone!

I don't know about this list. Memphis is notorious for crime, but I don't see how that would be enough to make the state number 1.

I'm not all that surprised Michigan isn't on here, myself. While you do hear a lot of horror stories out of Detroit and Flint, the rest of the state's a sweetheart. Hell, just outside of Detroit, in Dearborn, you're fairly hard-pressed to hear too many bad things.

I'm honestly shocked that California isn't on the list but Oklahoma is. In my old neighborhood I always felt pretty unsafe but out here in Oklahoma I come and go as I please at night.

Oklahoma as a whole is safe, but there are gang issues in both Oklahoma City and Tulsa, which will skew the rest of the state's data. Outside of the cities, most of the crimes are passion crimes or, unfortunately, thrill killings form spoiled teens.
