I didn't watch this because of RAW, but I saw the pilot and liked it. Did anybody check the premiere out? How is Cartoon Network's newest cartoon so far to you?

All right, I finally saw the pilot on On Demand. I like that the Crystal Gems have some more traits to them than the online pilot I saw. Steven seems okay so far, easily nervous but I don't find him annoying or obnoxious. I really like Pearl so far, since she was very motherly to Steven. Amethyst has some things in common with Steven, but I don't have a full opinion on her or Garnet yet. I'd have to see how they are in some more episodes first.
The first episode wasn't spectacular, but it was decent. I did love the moments between Steven and his father, plus I hope we find out more about his mom and how he got involved with the Crystal Gems a bit more. Some people criticized this cartoon for being too similar to Adventure Time, but I don't feel that way with it. It's humor and writing aren't based on randomness.
Oh, and I have to say I love the art direction the best so far in this. The background and character designs are nice to look at, and the colors are pleasant.

Amethyst is by far my fav character She's all right so far. I think mine is Pearl at the moment. I like that she looks like a ballerina figure.

Here's a cool article about the show with comments from the creator herself. io9.com/steven-universe-is-a-show-about-fantasys-love-affair-1458060916I really love the clever ways they use Steven's perspective to slowly but surely show certain things about the Crystal Gems and their personalities. And I have to say it makes me excited to hear they're planning to go into what Crystal Gems are and using the dynamic between them as the show's source of conflict by dealing with Steven finding his own identity and coming into his own as a hero.

I'm going to pose the same question here that I've posed to Tumblr and Twitter......Anyone else getting a massive Osamu Tezuka/Astro Boy vibe from the character designs?

Steven and Pearl, yes but not quite anyone else. There is definitely a manga or graphic novel style to it though.

Did anyone see Tiger Millionaire, the wrestling episode? It was pretty great, especially at the end when Pearl and Garnet actually tried to heel it up with the crowd.

Bumping this because I'm officially hooked on this show. It took a few episodes to get me, I think because the pace is deliberately a little bit slower than something like Adventure Time. But man is it good once it gets going.
I think the Tiger Millionaire episode was the one that hooked me. Really nice art style, a cool story (I love the hints at there being a crazy story behind the scenes that we haven't seen yet), and really nice voice acting. Plus Joel from MST3K as Mayor Dewey!!!

I've only caught a couple of episodes of it, but it's decent. Really love the character designs, especially Amethyst because you don't see a lot of heroic big girls in fiction.

I've only seen a few episodes but loved what I saw. Some of the background settings are some of the best looking things I've seen in animation. It's a show you can just look at to be wow'd and you can watch it to be entertained. I really do want to see more episodes but my free time is between few to none. :/

I wish they'd feature the Mayor more, since he's voiced by Joel Hodgson.

IMHO, the best Cartoon Network-made show since Dexter's Laboratory. The animation is amazing, the story (while slower, as a previous poster said) is excellent while leaving a lot to think about (both in-context to the show and in general), I love the music, I love Steven as a character (reminds me a lot of myself)...I have nearly no issues with this show whatsoever. My one qualm would be that the scheduling for it is a little erratic compared to other shows. I set my DVR to record just the new ones as they pop up and it seems to be a crap shoot as to whether a new episode is running that week or not. To be fair, Regular Show went through the same period where its "seasons" just started and stopped whenever. It feels like Adventure Time with a much better story and smarter writing to it.
Plus, it's the only cartoon I've bothered to purchase merch for (got me a shirt in the mail as we speak).

Good to see this great cartoon get more attention. I like Adventure Time and Regular Show, but there's a reason why I love Steven Universe and why it's become my current favorite show on Cartoon Network and the latest episode is it. The strongest thing about this cartoon is the familial relationship between Steven and the Crystal Gems. So it's not a surprise that an episode that develops on that relationship and sources on it would be so good. There's just something so endearing about how emotional the show is, and how close Steven is with Pearl, Garnet, and Amethyst. We already knew from interviews with Rebecca Sugar that the Gems don't age, but it's nice to see it explained well on the show. It handled that exposition really well. Also, while I love just about every episode, this was the first episode where I had a lot of good laughs throughout the episode. Particularly Pearl's reaction to Steven's joke and then trying to make it work hereself. Tiger Millionaire is my current favorite episode, but So Many Birthdays is a possible threat.

I really need to watch more of this show. The bits and pieces I've seen I've loved and it seems like a really interesting premise.

Here are my thoughts on "Lars and the Cool Kids".
Lars has so far been the only character I've disliked, as he's come across as a one-note jerk who always rags on Steven for little to no reason. But that said, it was nice seeing him get some development. The part where Steven called him out for calling his mom "weird" was nicely done. If you don't count the last episode with Steven's aging, this was the first moment we've ever seen Steven stick up for himself to Lars. It's also the first time we ever see him angry too, come to think of it...
Jenny, Sour Cream, and Buck Dewey were actually pretty cool. They all had individual traits that set them apart from each other. I love that they weren't a typical group of bullies or spoiled kids like how other shows or cartoons tend to do episodes like this. I hope all three of them appear again down the line; especially since one of them is the Mayor's son and the other guy is voiced by the dude behind Octus.
Also, I have to say it was a nice touch that even Steven's mom Rose got some development. She hasn't appeared in so much as a flashback (I'm 100% positive that will be a future episode in the future), but already we have some pretty good ideas what her personality was like thanks to the writing behind this episode.
By the way, sounds like next episode will feature the enigmatic Onion. Can't wait to see what that episode will be about!

Bumping this because it's back with new episodes.
"Coach Steven" was a decent episode. Pearl's song was great thanks to her actress having a beautiful singing voice. Not unexpected when everyone in the cast has a radio or music background. I have to say I like the idea that some of the Gem fusions like Sugilite are unstable. It raises questions about why they don't do them more often. Can't help but wonder what will happen when Steven fuses with each of his foster sisters. Steven willing Pearl on to stop Sugilite was a great moment.
"Joking Victim" was great. I was hoping Sadie would get her own episode as she's one of Steven's closest friends and Lars already had one. What an episode it was! Aside from doing a great job with fleshing out Sadie's personality, we got to see Clam Chowder and Buck Dewey again! I enjoyed how Sadie talked Steven down from pranking Lars, telling him how two wrongs don't make a right basically, but then caved in with how angry he made her. Which she had showed a lot of remorse for and made for a good moment between her and Lars. This show has been very good with character development.
Oh, and Steven's last line to Amethyst was funny.

I have to say, I'm glad that in the recent set of episodes they've explored Greg and the Gem's roles as Steven's parents a bit. There was that one with Greg staying with him, trying to use his leg to spend more time with Steven. Then we had Pearl get carried away with a spaceship when she thought there was a way get back home with Steven. And of course, we're seeing more shades of Garnet's personality, showing that she will discipline Steven when he does something wrong.
They've even fleshed Steven's mom Rose out even more, and she still has yet to appear. There's going to be an upcoming episode where Greg tells Steven about what happened after met Rose. Needless to say, I'm looking forward to that one the most!
