The judges have reached a decision for Elimination Sing-Off #13, held between Orangeutan and Square. The Save has not been used. With this elimination, the contestant pool for FAN Idol Season IX will be reduced to just six contestants. Six. While the level of play has been incredibly high this entire Season, the final six have taken it to the next level and will have to use all their musical expertise in order to advance farther. There's a great deal of luck involved as well, since contestants have to be able pick music that appeals to a highly individuated group of judges with tastes that run the musical gamut. So, where you place does not truly reflect your musical acumen. Still, in the end, we can only have one FAN Idol this Season. Regardless of who moves on, we will be saying goodbye to a very talented and resourceful contestant. The two Elimination Sing-Off contestants have, combined, participated in seven out of nine Wrestlecrap/FAN Idol Seasons, judged in several of them, and Square is Season IV's Idol, a Season that was particularly long for the time and contained such Idol All-stars as Ssnakebite, the Number 1 Frenchman, Demented, and Cageking. So, the stakes are high for this Sing-Off. Orangetuan selected Pearl Jam's Grunge Anthem Jeremy, while Square countered with the modern blues of Terms of My Surrender by the chameleon like Singer-Songwriter. Moving on, with 3 votes to 0, is... {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler} Orangetuan!!! Congratulations on moving forward! You rebounded superbly from the last Round, picking an anthemic smash hit at just the right time. Amazing! With this win, you've shown just how much of a threat you are moving forward.
With Orangetuan's win, that means that, unfortunately, we have to say goodbye to Square. Square, as always, you've showed us some incredible artists and triumphed during some very difficult rounds. You're a former winner but you've gotten better at this game the more you've played. You are truly one of the personalities that makes this game very special. For this game to work, really capable contestants have to be eliminated. You went out with great song and there's not much else you can ask for in this game.
Everyone, please put your hands together for Square!!!

Hmm, that Sing-Off was a squash, which Square's pick really didn't deserve.

Well since I didn't think that I would get out a first few rounds due to the shitty judging I'm glad I got this far, but damn I'm done with this for a while.

Not everyone will have your musical taste, and part of the competition is adapting to the judge trends. It took me 2 rounds to figure out rap wasn't playing particularly well with this bunch, and I switched up my style to accommodate for that. If you get eliminated, it's nobody's fault but your own. Thanks for playing.

It has nothing to do with sour grapes. Thanks for reading.

Whilst I'm at it, I know judging is hard I've done it and it sucks I found. I'm not saying that because they didn't like my musical taste I'm pissed at them rather that the lack of consistency in the way particular judges voted, the lateness of the voting earlier in the season and other things. It just left a bad taste in me mouth, especially as I had reservations at the very start and decided to stick to it out of liking Tyger as host when he took over.
Also yes i understand some people will be pissed that I'm saying this, and I apologize to those that I may offend but this season has left a sour taste in my mouth of this and I know this is felt by others. Also let me make clear that this is in no way about Tyger, he stepped in and took over this and did a damn good job especially considering he has been doing it constantly for up to a year.
Got a problem with what I'm saying, pm me and tell me why. Hell call me a dick if you feel like it. Drunk Square is drunk

Judges will do what they want. When you think about it, isn't inconsistency what makes the game so great? Someone who finishes in bottom one round, can score higher the next. I have a strong inclination that I'm on square's shit list and I'm truly sorry he feels that way. But you'll never know what can be brought to the table. As a judge I've been introduced to many great songs that I've never heard before. Jeremy is one of my all time favorite songs along with my favorite music video of all time, so there are not many songs that would beat it. As a judge, It isn't blind hate for particular genres, ,you just go with what appeals to you.

This Although I get Square's frustration cause it made me avoid specific genres knowing the song would likely score low when I was a player. Personally that's why I wish future season have Jazz,Hip Hop,Country Metal,Electropop etc round .As it is seems like half the setlist a lot of rounds is classic rock based. And not that it would have changed anything but I would have voted for Terms Of Surrender over Jeremy.

I've only played one other season, so that's my basis of comparison for everything I'm going to say.
This season is different. To some extent, that's to be expected. You have another group of contestants and another panel of judges, and that's naturally going to make things play out differently due to tastes. Because of that, one's strategy may change. Have I been able to be as varied as I maybe would be with another set of factors to deal with? No, probably not. That's not to say I don't like and stand by each and every one of my song choices, because I do. But the strategy this go around is a little different than it was last time.
Then there are things that have happened that are unique to this season. I think the foot the season got off on was an odd one and set the tone in a lot of aspects, like pacing for example. Also, it's been a struggle keeping track of judges likes and dislikes because the panel keeps changing. I feel like I have/had a grip on it and I'm not trying to imply I'm doing poorly over all or anything like that, but I don't think I have as good an idea of what to do where it pertains to particular judges. So I wind up choosing what I can gather the judges I do have a read on will like from what I know *I* like. Again, all strategy as best I can play it. Does it get frustrating? Yea, sometimes. But at the same time, I can't tell the judges how to rank/vote because I know I certainly don't want someone telling me how to play. Really, it all comes down to tastes. No one's is wrong.
I *will* say that Tyger's hosting has been awesome (as usual) and he's come up with some neato round themes that I've had fun sinking my teeth in to. In the end, I think we're all here just to have fun and maybe learn about some new, cool music.

Very happy to be moving on! I really wish the save had been used because Square is a hell of a player, but that's not my call to make.
I hope to perform stronger next round so I can avoid another sing-off. That shit's nervewracking as all hell!

Personally that's why I wish future season have Jazz,Hip Hop,Country Metal,Electropop etc round .As it is seems like half the setlist a lot of rounds is classic rock based. And not that it would have changed anything but I would have voted for Terms Of Surrender over Jeremy. I had more genre specific Rounds last Season and, as this Season hasn't finished yet, they may come up at some point. I'm not a big fan of genre restricted or decade restricted rounds. They can certainly play out very well and be a lot of fun to play and judge but I think they can sort of kill future song use from that genre or decade. If you play an entire Round of 80's songs, players may be reluctant to use them in the future, especially since many of the key artists of that time period would likely be selected for the Round and be unavailable later. Last Season, I had several genre specific Rounds. I had three fan band Round where players had to pick a rock song, a pop song, and a hip hop song. I enjoyed it quite a bit and, to play off of that, I did a Metal round right after that. I liked how that round played out because there were many different types of metal represented: Power Metal, Industrial Metal, Dirty Pop Metal, and Classic Metal. Some obvious but wonderful choices were selected, like songs from Metallica and Rammstein and they did well. The thing is, several contestants and judges were like "Ugh, Metal Round." Now, players like Jazzman and Knailsic liked the Round quite a bit but others found it a struggle. Then, I had a pair of Rounds where contestants had to select 4 songs per Round for the following musical genres: A: Electronic, Gospel, Jazz, Punk B: Folk Music, New Wave, R&B, and Classical That went over amazingly and may be the best pair of Rounds of the entire season. On the whole though, it can be tricky to do things like that, especially with a large pool of players. One thing about doing, say a punk Round or a jazz one, is that it can be demanding to expect ten contestants to pick ten different punk songs from ten different punk bands. I love punk music, in particular proto-punk, but I couldn't do a Round like that so early. Pegasus Warrior also pointed out that there are some musical genres that where you go to a particular musician immediately. If we did Reggae as a Round, for example, it would be a race to pick Bob Marley first. I'd love to see someone do, say, Bad Brains for that Round, but that might not play well with the judges. So you have a Round that rewards picking genre defining legends over more risky picks. You could link it with another genre and do a paired round which is very doable but I personally like to do more theme oriented rounds because it allows for players to use what they like. Now, there have been more specific rounds and there will be others in the future but I'm just reluctant to do a New Wave or Latin music round when there are a lot of contestants left.

(I cut out a ton of other stuff from my original post. I'll just say this.)
I love marking for the unpredictablilty of picks from round to round in topic-based and "loose connection" rounds rather than genre-based rounds. Props to Square and Michael Hayden and J--just to name a few, there are others that come to mind--who don't give an eff and educate us all on diversity In selections. Gus does it too in his own way: props for getting some under the radar hard rock/metal picks in there when you can, because it's true to who you are and you just say eff the ranking at certain moments when opportunity presents itself.)
Added to that, the thing I don't love about genre rounds is if you force it, it's not just a test for the players, you're forcing judges into areas they hate that some contestants love. So it's a setup for major resentment at times.
I liked judging those rounds last year Tyger mentioned. I love how people showed off some stellar music knowledge. I just guess I'm saying I feel a little differently about it as a contestant this season.

I have all the songs in for Round 34 and have sent them to the judges. I'll post them momentarily but I think I need to address judging after the last Elimination Sing-Off.
Square said several things that I believe have serious merit. I do feel things would run much smoother if we had a consistent group of judges. I think that, in my attempt to make sure judging wouldn't lag, I overbooked, as it were, the judging group. Now, since a few judges have tapered off in their participation, we have a regular judging panel for the most part. Judges are not ineffable, they are not perfect, and they have likes and dislikes, experience and inexperience with a genre or time period, attachments just like players. To be a judge doesn't mean you have to be a musical expert. Honestly, only Widow's Peak, who has a music education degree, can be called an expert here when it comes to music. Square has a twitter account devoted to music, Knailsic plays the bass, but no one here is a true expert and, honestly, that's not important. What is is being fair and being open-minded.
I feel the judges have been that way this Season. I admit that I had my own frustration early on. Why can't I get out of the pack? Why am I on the bottom? Why, in my opinion, did a judge say a dismissive thing about my music? It bummed me out when I was eliminated and I told Cageking as such and talked to him about balancing judges. It really wasn't fair of me to do that because I've never been a full-time Idol judge, I've never managed to make it far in a season. Now Square has some legitimacy because he's done both. How he said it might be an issue but he had his opinion and he should feel free to express it. That's not up to debate: everyone does.
I think two things will be addressed when all is said and done about this Season: how eliminations work and how the Season's length will be determined. I think it might be time to change up eliminations. There could be a different Save system, there could be a way for a contestant to have more protection. We could do something with averages, throwing out one low score per contestant per Season or some other way to impact things. Maybe take things as an average. Something different that someone much better suited for the task than I can come up with. These aren't just my ideas but ideas from people who've played this game season after season, former hosts, as well as people new to the game who've done things like hosting other trivia based games. The Season's length, too, can be up for discussion. This will be the longest Idol season. It's been going on a relatively brisk pace but it has still taken a long time. I love this game but, Round after Round, category after category, can get to people. If you're a player, you're likely stretched to your limit in what you can pick. As a judge, you've listen to so many songs that you might want a break. As Host, I don't mind doing this but I feel tired at times and the sense of obligation and responsibility to the game can be draining sometimes.
So, I think that people's frustration, across the board, can be understood. As for judging, I've tried to keep things balanced. I've recruited new judges based on what I feel would be overall musical tastes. Moonie was brought in because I wanted a stronger classic rock presence in the judging, mixed with some experimentation. Waffel is punctual and enthusiastic, so I wanted his energy. Rad picked from different genres and is a newcomer, so I felt he would play off of Longhorn Mod/Canctus well, since they share some traits. Jazzman was brought in because we needed somebody who liked the more risky choices almost as a rule. Z-A was brought in because he's a former Idol winner and I know he likes several different genres while having his own recognizable style. That's what I've attempted to do and I think it's worked to an extent. It's not perfect, it can't be, and I don't think the judges should judge in any particular way. They should be honest and thoughtful, sure. They should also be knowledgeable about music. I think they are and I stand behind them. I can appreciate player's frustration but I can't blame the judges for anything. That said, as good judges, they should have an open mind when it comes to the songs chosen and I feel that they do. It's just that judging is hard, especially on a particularly close-knit forum like this one.
So, behind that wall of text, I think I meant to say that judges should never feel like they need to judge a certain way, players can express how they feel freely, and we should all try to have fun with this. The game's not perfect but we're all trying our best and, honestly, we're almost like our own community on FAN. The idol players. It's gotten that big of a concept. So, while it is a game and a competitive one at that, I'd like to think of it as a game between friends.

I'd be lying if I said I was happy with some of my scores on certain rounds when I was still in the game. But honestly I was trying to play the game my way. I didn't pick songs because I thought the judges would like them; I picked songs because I personally enjoyed them, either through discovering them while researching for a round or something that instantly came to my mind when I thought about it. And if the judges liked them as well, then hey, that's just a bonus.
I don't think that this game should be about trying to pander to the judges. I mean the scores obviously matter, but why would you pick something that you personally didn't believe in yourself? Say what you will about some of my choices, but nearly every song that I've picked this season was one that I listened to over and over and enjoyed enough to select it. This game should be about discovering music, both unfamiliar gems and familiar favorites.
Treating every round as a way to try and get the best score all the time without seeing if you yourself enjoy the song or not just seems to me like it's missing the spirit of the game. And there have been a few examples of this throughout, though in some cases I imagine it was more about not being able to think of anything better.
Yes, winning is always nice, but I've never won a single round in my entire run through the game. And I still had a blast playing it. So really I say to those remaining to try and enjoy the ride for however long it lasts. I'm not saying don't take judges' taste into account, but make sure that you yourself truly enjoy each of your choices as well, for whatever reason that might be.
And with that said I'll return to quietly watching the remainder of this game.

The six remaining FAN Idol contestants found themselves led to a production studio ominously referred to as the "Kevin One and Dunn Center". Two Black window tinted white limos, straight out of the NWO's master collection transported the six talented performers to the undisclosed area. Gus Richlen's limo had Osetra caviar, Marquis de Montesquiou 1904 Vintage Armagnac cognanc, and cushiony pillows filled with the feathers of multi-colored birds. Murder Killingfield's limo did not. After what felt like a winding trek up a mountaintop, howling winds rattling the limo windows, and then a never ending decent into the valley below, the limosines eventually stopped. The limo drivers, the Faces of Fear (Meng and the Barbarian) muttered a password in guttural Tongan, activating a secret door. (With that look alone, Meng just opened the front door of your house) Entering the secret door, the six contestants were taken out of their limos inside an enormous garage that contained a myriad of priceless automobiles, including a 1966 Shelby 427 Cobra Super Snake, a 1957 Mercedes 300SL Gullwing, a 1966 Alfa Romeo Spider Duetto, and the remains of Sid Vicious's car that was destroyed by Goldberg. The Tongan cousins led the contestants down a gauntlet of FAN defense mechanisms, laughing as tear gas pellets choked the air around them and ripping apart the FAN security robots as if they were the Mulkey Brothers. Meng bit one those robot's wireless camera mount off like it was the nose of one of his hated enemies. (The Gullwing, which is nicer to look at than Sid's destroyed car) Delivered safely through the FAN defense mechanisms, the six contestants cheerfully bid goodbye to the Tongan badasses, who were off to hunt sea monsters with Fit Finlay and Harley Race. Pegasus Warrior (whispering to the others): I knew a pair of Samoans once. Decent chaps, very clean and respectful. Completely out of their minds. Why, they helped to storm Babylon and, within a matter of days, the Hanging Gardens were plucked clean of all ripe fruit and the whole city was under the rule of some stoner kids from the Achaemenid Empire. Gretchen Weiners (unbelievably loud): Were there a lot of skulls involved? I bet there were. (Shadowboxing the air) Oh man. Pegasus Warriors: Yes, yes there were. The contestants stumbled on the set of the what appeared to be a dilapidated game show. Tyger, their Host, was wearing a black suit and held a bunch of note cards in hand. Many garish lights flashed around the contestants like camera flashes, a large musical note on one wall. Orangetuang (looking at the Host and frowning): Oh goddamnit, what now? The Host greeted everyone with a big dumb smile, cleared his throat, and said: "AAAANNNNDDDDD HERE WE ARE! WELCOME TO NINE: A PLAYBACK OF GREATNESS!!! I'M YOUR HOST, WINK TYGER AND-" Knalisic Loves to Boogie: Wait, Wink? C'mon man! The suit, the cards, don't tell me your a game show host now? Tyger: Well, Knalisic Loves to Boogie, I've been a game show host this entire time! In fact, let's show the audience at home- Gus Richlen: Audience? Since when has this competition been televised? Yeah, yeah, I know you had some audiences filled with TNA plants but let's be real here. The only clapping that's going on is in your head, buddy. Tyger: Ooh Gus Richlen, being 100% honest as always! I love it! (turning to a camera... is it even on?) Folks, remember when we threw poor ol' Gus Richlen in Jail right before Round 23: Rebels? (Laughing) I bet you do! But let's go back a bit and watch what happened! A large screen came into focus, showing a montage of Gus Richlen in FAN prison. He fought off a gang of FAN thugs led by AskHer! with a screwdriver and brass knuckles fashioned out of a replica John Cena spinning heavyweight belt. Audible "oohs" and "aahs" reacted to Gus's day to day life in FAN prison. He found it unbearable at first, fighting off AskHer's thugs, all dressed up in black as if they raided the Shield's closet for fatigues, enduring the insane yelling of innumerable "My Name is Paul Heyman" variations (some of a rather explicit nature) throughout the night, and finding time to secretly start digging a tunnel to his freedom. He moved D'Lo Brown and Lash Laroux with his incendiary remarks about bucking the system, that if they gave you ruled paper, you should write the other way and that you should hold on to the Money in the Bank briefcase because possession of a title shot where in you could cash in at any time is far more valuable than any belt. Eventually, his uprising, his defiant act of rebellion, inspired Diamond Dallas Page to break away from the other guards and help diamond cut Mr. Richlen to freedom. Laughing a false laugh, the Host went on. Tyger (pointing to the screen as a graphic of Orangeutan and Murder Killingfield came up): ANDDDD in Round 14: Film Club, our audience thrilled to see this unlikely duo fight the forces of evil side by side, cape to cape as it were, as Orangetuan and his trusty side kick Murder Killingfield fought the good fight to rid Dudleyville of its nefarious criminal underbelly! BLAM!! The sound of Orangeutan's noble fist clobbering Spike Dudley! SNIKT!! A blade swung by Murder Killingfield cleaving D-Von's table in half! Dances with Dudleys challenged the dynamic Fan Duo to a funk-off for control of the mean streets of Dudleyville but he didn't count on Orangeutan's Funky-Chunky-Monkey moves. Big Dick Dudley Chokeslammed Murder through three floors of an apartment complex, Murder's bones breaking in fine Zack Snyder fashion but Killingfield made his come back and, while delivering a droning monologue, set Big Dick aflame!! There was the requisite pathos, a monologue delivered by Orangetuan about the futility of the fight against crime and a scathing rebuttal from Killingfield. Helicopters closed in, spotlights were broken, Brad got slapped in the face because he helped the pair fake their deaths. Sighing, the remaining contestants grumbled about having to use the same artists again, some threatening to sue the Host, others threatening bodily harm, but they ultimately produced these songs for Round 34: One More Time: The Double Dip:Can’t Find My Way Home- Blind Faith www.youtube.com/watch?v=bDAttqJ3qcgHer Strut- Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ef_9clQ0rhMMy Back Pages- The Byrds www.youtube.com/watch?v=h80l4XIPJC4Recover- Chvrches www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jagrhrl6nmoCool Kids- Echosmith www.youtube.com/watch?v=UXTlczyWJ-YBennie and the Jets- Elton John www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5rQHoaQpTwMiddle of Nowhere- Hot Hot Heat www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Nk2iNjLYukLove’s Been Good to me- Johnny Cash www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7JPwznm6e4&index=41&list=LLhRyl9ORPwSqtLO9zfTg5ugSwimming Pools (Drank)- Kendrik Lamar www.youtube.com/watch?v=zt0hLBF0rN8Turned Me Cold- Lil B www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2pjxHTl2kkTonight You Belong to Me- Paul Stanley www.youtube.com/watch?v=9p9Hl0YP6MkOut All Night- The Pietasters www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxa0Kpgsgv8The Zephyr Song- Red Hot Chili Peppers www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJObEaY6afgYou’ve Got Time- Regina Spektor www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBITGyJynfAHero of War- Rise Against www.youtube.com/watch?v=fAG1i3JfUvADead Flowers- The Rolling Stones www.youtube.com/watch?v=_emq_NzO7H8The Judgement- Solomon Burke www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNsRl5jSePUOctopus- Syd Barrett www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_6PhexCMow&app=desktop

...My bad, sober Square sorry. Just got back in like an hour ago, was a weird night. Nearly got into a fight with a guy that looked like Freight Train in a toilets over him trying to force me to give him money for a lolly.

*looks at list*
Welp, someone's getting a high-five, the impact of which they've never felt before. I kinda just went a little insane.
In response to B Natural, love that post. I'm the same way. I never pick stuff I just kinda like and throw it in there for the sake of judges' scores. Legit love all my submissions. I have one song this season I submitted that I kick myself for because it's the one exception. I did like it and I do like it but it was a category I was not able to think of a great example for in my bank of songs memory (also, was a busy week) and instead of picking an artist that had been used before in a previous season, I went with an act brand new to the game. Instead of pandering, I went with the road less traveled over a song I loved way more for the round. It got trashed by judges anyway, so I got what I deserved for selling the previously used artist out in the name of "freshness."
