They've ruined him, they've completely ruined him. What was a completely hilarious and obnoxious gimmick is gone, replaced with the all black "serious" Damien Sandow. Why? They took away everything that made him stand out, and now he's just like every other heel. If there's one major flaw with the WWE, it's the fact that when they push heels, they take away everything that's funny and entertaining about them. It happened with Del Rio, it happened with Cody Rhodes, and now it's happened to Damien Sandow. That's what WWE Creative does. Ruin good characters.

Will being aggressive ruin the Damien Sandow gimmick?

My girlfriend, while not always watching RAW, is a fan of Sandow. We sat down to watch Monday's RAW last night and when he came on screen she said, "Wait.. why is he dressed like that? Where's the robe??"
She was upset. She can never remember his name so she always just calls him "The Fancy Man". Fancy Man is no longer fancy.

Part of the problem is the way the wrestling has trained its fans to not enjoy hating someone, especially older fans. You're supposed to boo people because it's fun to get into the show. But the WWE always has this weird aura, like it's embarrassing to actually get into the show and hate the people you're "supposed to" hate. That problem is exacerbated by the fact that there is zero good reason to actually like any of the faces. older fans used to do things like try to stab heels. I don't think they booed them because it was fun to get into the show

Maybe in realizing that all entertaining heels get over by drawing reactions, which eventually forces a turn, Creative has stifled Sandow by pushing reset on his charisma and halting the fun antics -- simply to delay his face turn. WWE is way too face heavy right now anyway.

you're not supposed to be entertained by heels I always hate that argument. Sorry but you ARE meant to be entertained by them, not bored stiff. No other form of entertainment decides "hey, the bad guy is meant to be completely hated. Let's generic him up". Imagine if they decided to make Darth Vader a generic guy in a suit who did nothing entertaining whatsoever. It would suck. Just like zapping away everything entertaining that a heel has in a lame attempt to get them heat sucks. It's lazy writing. Heels should be entertaining, as should the faces. Nobody should be sat there bored shitless because the WWE creative team thinks genericcing up their heels is a good way to get heat or stop them getting a few cheers. In almost every form of entertainment, the heels have been memorable and entertaining yet you've wanted to see them get defeated either because of their actions OR, because the face has been relatable and more likeable. Yet WWE fails with that too by making most of it's faces to be dull as dishwater. For ever Darth Vader there's thousands of faceless mooks. And of course he was so impressive with all his actions. Being the attack dog of an old monster, torturing people, having planets blown up, killing helpless kids. I know people complained about Anakin Skywalker in the prequels( I know they complained about more than that but still) and I think maybe the reason he was written the way he was because Lucas wanted to show the traitorous weapon of a dictator wasn't the coolest guy in the room. Honestly I don't get some of your logic up there. People don't find the hero relatable.... so they root for the monster? That's a pretty big leap In real life, normal people can't act out in outlandish and cartoony ways. But wrestlers can. And that's what wrestling is all about -- watching from a detached view as heroes and villains clash, and through their actions or reactions, you decide who you prefer. It's modern day gladiatorial games, worked for our enjoyment. The company may WANT someone to be popular, but they cannot manufacture it. Not completely. (Although they do manage to make some people buy into their propaganda. Luckily the majority has the ability to see through their machinations, though.). yes, it's so great people can convince themselves not to fully enjoy the product they invest time and possibly money in, for some reason.

But still why would an intellectual waste time in combat to do stuff like cartwheels?

Honestly I don't get some of your logic up there. People don't find the hero relatable.... so they root for the monster? That's a pretty big leap To use wrestling as the narrative, Darth Vader "got over" in the 70's because he was so powerful and mysterious and bad ass. All the new Trilogy bullshit was retconned and made up long after his appeal was first established. It was never known that he killed kids (Plus, Tarkin blew up Alderaan). And the biggest mark out moment in Jedi was when Vader turned face. It all built to that. Ep 4 he was a mysterious bad ass. Ep 5, you found out his identity but really didn't know his motivations, other than he was brimming with hate and frustration. Ep 6, you see his reluctance and inner humanity coming out right from the beginning of that film. It then builds beautifully to him sacrificing himself for his son, because that bond, ultimately, was stronger than his darkness. And people didn't root for the monster. They rooted for him turning good. Like the way people did with Undertaker in '92. Maybe in realizing that all entertaining heels get over by drawing reactions, which eventually forces a turn, Creative has stifled Sandow by pushing reset on his charisma and halting the fun antics -- simply to delay his face turn. WWE is way too face heavy right now anyway. well part of it is that some of the mannerisms were given to a guy on NXT. But still why would an intellectual waste time in combat to do stuff like cartwheels? To show how little he respects and values his opponents. Its the ultimate act of disrespectful arrogance and perceived superiority. Part of the problem is the way the wrestling has trained its fans to not enjoy hating someone, especially older fans. You're supposed to boo people because it's fun to get into the show. I don't think they booed them because it was fun to get into the show They tried to stab them because they thought what they were watching was real. Vince ended that charade.

Poor writing. I could go into more detail but that's at the core of this. Poor, incredibly lazy writing/booking.

Never liked him much anyway so maybe this "SRS" Sandow might win me over.

He needs one of those MK Trilogy Aggressor bars at the bottom of the screen

Lanny Poffo needs to put in an appearance and say "What happened to you Damien? You used to be a genius!"
Then something something poetry and frisbees.
