I'll just repost... But you ignored defense and baserunning which is impossible to argue that Miggy was in the same ball park as Trout. Whether you trust UZR/DS or not, a solid CF is a ton more valuable than a slow 3b with no range. Baserunning isn't just stolen bases. It's the ability to take the extra base, beating out DP which Miggy hits into a ton, infield singles, not clogging the basepaths. That's another huge advantage for Trout.

I think it's schadenfreude, but I'd love to see either the state of Florida or even the feds come down hard on MLB for the scummy, potentially illegal things it did in its crusade against A-Rod.

It's impossible, for me, not to read Masahiro Tanaka's name as Masato Tanaka.

According to Matt Cerrone of MetsBlog, the White Sox, Cubs, Mets and Astros are among teams showing early interest in free agent outfielder Curtis Granderson. (Personally, any time I hear the Cubs mentioned in a group of teams for a top-notch player, I automatically assume they're finishing as the runner-up. They just want people to think they're serious about turning that mess around.) Sure the Sox are interested, he's a local guy from Thornton-Fractional (TF) South/University of Illinois-Chicago and he just gave UIC a huge donation to upgrade their baseball facilities. He's involved in MLB's reach into the inner-city youth program. The Sox might make him a decent offer, but I don't think they expect to actually land him. That would involve taking the hometown discount into effect, and knowing Curtis at this stage in his career, he should get as much as he can while the gettin' is good. I would like to see Granderson on the team, but I am also wanting Curtis to do what's right for himself. However, (and I'm not expecting them to land him, either) Phil Rogers says, with the extra $25M in TV money coming in, don't be surprised to see the Sox make a run at Shin-Soo Choo. Aside from all of that, the team is pretty much in a holding pattern until Paul Konerko decides what he's going to do for next season. Paul has said if he wants to play another season, the only part-time role he would take would be with the White Sox. Rumor mill is buzzing about deals for Chris Sale being a possibility; in August & September he was pretty much labeled the one "untouchable" player. GM Rick Hahn admits, "Of course we get offers (for Sale). You have to keep an open mind." (Basically, what every GM says when they have something in the works.)

I wonder if the Red Sox front office sleeps well at night knowing they ruined a 28-year-old pitcher by screwing around with a sure thing. EDIT - Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer is reporting that the Phillies have re-signed catcher Carlos Ruiz to a three-year, $26 million contract. And Jarrod Saltalamacchia's price tag just increased. But I'd still rather have Salty for three years and say $40 million than BASEBALL SHERIFF Brian McCann for five years and $100 million or whatever hideous contract is being bandied about.

Carlos Ruiz is not worth $8.67 million a year. What a terrible GM.
