Freese was incredible and won the World Series for the Cards in 2011, and for that I will forever cheer for him when he comes back for old timers days. But he had totally worn out his welcome from me. The fact that the Cards got anything of value pleases me. Freese can now go to Anaheim and ground into as many double plays as he wants. In fact I hate losing Salas more than him, but I don't hate that too much as the prospect they got from the Angels sounds intriguing.

The Mets signed Chris Young to a 1 year, $7.25 million contract.
I like this as a step one move; Young is a very short term commitment who is worth his contract if he even produces around a 1.5 WAR next season, plus he's a guy coming off a year where he was injured and had a ridiculously low BABIP, so he should be due for at least a minor stat correction. Worst case scenario, he's likely a decent trade chip come late July into August.
Of course, this won't be good if the Mets don't do anything else for their lineup after this, but given that they still have likely around $23 million in budget wiggle room and trade chips still available (Davis, Murphy, Flores, etc.), I think it's a safe bet that more moves are coming. Would love to see them sign Peralta, and maybe trade for Dexter Fowler. Ideally I'd want Choo, but if the market's out of whack for him I'd understand passing. A lineup of Fowler-Murphy-Wright-Peralta-D'Arnaud-Duda/Satin-Young-Lagares isn't sexy, but all of those guys would project to be above league average at a minimum, which would be a hell of an improvement over most Mets lineups since 2009, plus it can be had at a relatively low budget.
That said, it's Sandy Alderson; he certainly won't rush the market if he doesn't think he'll get the right deal.

I like the fact the Cardinals have someone with speed and is a good fielder so this trade works. I hate to see Freeze go but I saw it coming. Outside the amazing World Series he had in 2011 which all of us STL fans will never forget. He wasn't the same since, last season he wasn't there. The World Series he was way out of it. You can see it in the face.

Ken Rosenthal Ken_Rosenthal Source: #Yankees remain in "serious" discussions with McCann, as they have been for some time. Deal not yet close.

The Yankees are on the verge of signing protector of baseball Brian McCann to a 5 year in the $80M+ range.

I really hope Girardi and the Yankees clubhouse can reign in McCann's wanting to be Baseball's Fun Police if he signs with them. Though if I had to guess, they will. Starting fights off of admiring a home run isn't really the Yankee way.

My least favorite team signing BASEBALL'S JUDGE, JURY AND EXECUTIONER Brian McCann. I hope David Ortiz pimps it for a full two minutes after the first home run he hits at Yankee Stadium in 2014. McCann might actually try to murder him.

Something tells me that McCann and A-Rod will have problems with each other.

That wouldn't be cool at all.

I hope you like guys who don't show up at all in the playoffs, Yankees fans.
I've taken up for the guy in the past, but yeah, f*** Brian McCann.

We're used to that with... well, everyone not named Derek Jeter in 2012.

@sultanofstat Brian McCann has hit 52 HR to RF the past 3 years. Three of six who have hit more to RF played for the Yanks for at least one year.

I don't know how I feel about this McCann deal. He will definitely help the team out in the short term and it could work out that if Gary Sanchez is ready in 2 or 3 years, you move McCann to first and let Teixeira walk when his contract ends after 2016. Assuming Selig doesn't manage to get A Rod banned for good, he will be set at DH til his contract ends in 2017. Can't complain too much about the money I think its an overpay but like Cano and Ellsbury he gets lucky by coming out in a really bad year for free agents. I do worry that he could be liability if he's still actually playing catcher at age 36.
I don't like losing the draft pick with it being the earliest pick the Yankees would have had since 05 and now it makes me hope that they let one of their 3 QO's (Cano, Granderson and Kuroda) sign elsewhere so we can still get a decent pick.
