I really don't know what to make of this upcoming season.
We lost some SERIOUS starpower. Outside of Jameis, Hundley, and Bryce Petty- how many QB's do we have that by college standards are considered marquee?
Hell, we're in a brave new world just on the basis that the SEC is now having to chase the national championship after losing it for the first time since ABC SPORTS STILL EXISTED!
And I'm skeptical of if this new playoff that EVERYBODY wanted and finally got will truly be a success.

I'm more concerned whether Indiana's defense can be mediocre enough to help win games.
Also, with just Nate Sudfeld at QB, I'm not as confident with IU's depth at that position, as there are three QBs with no experience on the roster.

Big XII one could make an argument for 5 of the teams having a decent shot (Tech seems surprising this year), SEC a good...7-8ish have a good shot, ACC...1-3 lol

Irvin Charles, a 4-star commit from Haddonfield, N.J has made a verbal commitment to Penn state. They are recruiting well. Folks tend to focus on the sanctions and forget just how much talent PSU has around them. They are still the top program in a state with good talent. Ohio is a top5 talent state. Jersey and Maryland have considerable talent and blow at defending their borders. Joe was majorly screwing the pooch on recruiting. They needed a go-getter like Franklin. Helps that they are partway through the sanctions and the NCAA lightened them a bit. The kids in this class will get to play for full-strength teams in bowl games.

Joe's teams were still recruiting well and playing well in his last years. Now 1998-2004 is a different story but Penn State won the Big Ten in 2005 and 2008 and was on their way to likely winning in 2011 had not been for what went down.

Ill concur. Paterno reaaly knew how to push the majesty of penn state. He made it a destination. He created a brand and fiercely protected it and embellished it. No sir recruiting in the Joe Paterno era was not a problem

With or without that scandal PSU wasn't sniffing the title in '11. They weren't that good. They did share the title in '08 but you have to remember how long ago those kids were recruited to play. Look at his last five classes. His '10 class was good but four out of five( the '11, '09, , '07, and '08 classes) weren't very impressive for a traditional power that has access to plenty of surrounding talent. Even with the scandal and restrictions Franklin is out-recruiting Paterno, already has more 4*'s than Paterno's '10 class. Granted Paterno's age was a handicap in terms of recruiting, folks thought he may not be around much longer and I'd imagine the competition used that to their advantage.

They had a 2 game lead on Wisconsin before Joe Pa was fired. In fact they almost beat Nebraska at home the week he was dismissed WITHOUT him. They beat tOSU a week later on the road, had they beaten the Huskers, they claim that division. PSU wasn't a pretty team that year but they got the job done to win games in those first 8 of 9. Their only loss was to Alabama...who won the National Title. Chances are, if not for the scandal breaking, they win their division and possibly even the conference. Recruiting wasn't great but they still held strong the area. The idea that Joe was holding them back is absurd and revisionist history at best.
