At first this just seemed like a cheap way to convince people that PPV matches that could obviously end in shenanigans wouldn't (and of course, they always did anyway), but Orton hasn't gotten help from them in a while, and they're playing it like the rift between him and Hunter is getting worse.
Seems like an interesting wrinkle that isn't needed for the predictable "anti-corporate hero wins Royal Rumble, beats Orton for the championship at Wrestlemania" narrative we're all expecting, but could lend itself well to some other twists...

Triple H vs. Randy Orton (w/Vince McMahon) at Mania. If Orton stays as he was tonight, I'm 100% behind this.

I'd be happier if it went no where & HHH, Stephanie & Vince stopped being on-screen characters permanently.

Please no HHH/Orton. Their matches were mostly horrible and Trips loves to make Orton look weak.

Maybe H brings in Brock Lesnar to put Randy in his place and he becomes the Authority's chosen one.

My worst case scenario?
Orton turns face and Sheamus comes back as the Authority's real choice for the face of the company. Sheamus wins the Rumble and beats Orton at Wrestlemania for the title.

Triple H vs. Randy Orton (w/Vince McMahon) at Mania. Maybe they actually won't go after a Taker match where, in Orton's own words, they don't kick out of each other's finishers for 20 minutes.

Haven't you learned yet? Nothing leads anywhere anymore. WWE is just a bunch of stuff that happens for no rhyme or reason.

Believe it or not, that's almost exactly the scenario I was imagining when making this thread, except that they'd hype it as babyface Sheamus vs. heel Orton right until 'Mania, and pull a double turn there.

Yeah, I was thinking the heel or face alliances could go either way. A double turn at 'Mania could be interesting...

It's leading to Orton complaining and Steph telling him to shut up and do as he's told. He does.

If the rest of the Authority angle is any indication it's going nowhere.

I wouldn't mind a heel Sheamus as long as they show a video of him backstage spotting Triple H on the bench.

where's it going?
since WWE is currently on a "make internet beliefs part of someone's gimmick" kick, Orton is going to shit in Steph's handbag.

Maybe H brings in Brock Lesnar to put Randy in his place and he becomes the Authority's chosen one. That's...not such a bad idea actually. Make Lesnar a sort of hired mercenary for the Authority.

Considering the history between Orton and everyone else, I'm just glad they're not all portrayed as buddy buddy. Yes, they acknowledged their history the night after Summerslam, but it's good that we're still seeing that, despite being the Chosen One, Triple H and Orton aren't best friends.
