I broke my arm. To the point the bone was about to puncture the skin (actually broke two bones.
Nurse said it was a "sprain" and sent me to next class. Halfway through Class teacher called my Mom.
That was back in the sixth grade..

Sans the school's questionable decision, wasn't this a Beavis and Butt-Head episode?

I fell down the stairs and hurt my elbow in 6th grade, and sliced my finger open with an x-acto knife in 8th grade.. both times when I went to the nurse, she started laughing. I hated middle school.

If the child was stable I think the appropriate action would be to arrange for transportation to the hospital because she did not require emergency first responder care from EMS, as verified by the nurse's assessment, she just required transportation from point A to point B. The only material difference between calling the parents and calling for an ambulance is a lot of unnecessary expenditure. It's not like the paramedics would reattach her finger right there. I remember going to my high school nurse's office once because I got hit full in the face with a baseball and had blood oozing out of my nose. The first thing she did was stick the thermometer in my ear and say "Huh, no temperature." That was their response to EVERYTHING. Vital signs are a basic part of any assessment and it would have been negligent not to obtain them.

I agree with kidglov3s. If they sent her back to class, then I'd agree that they did wrong. But you're not going to bleed out through the tip of your finger, there aren't any major arteries that would render that life threatening, and as long as it's taken care of, it should be fine. Given the flaws of the current system and how costs are an issue, bandage it properly and ice the tip and there's no reason why she couldn't be driven to the hospital by someone else.
As for her being a six year old, she's going to be traumatized, but I think adults being calm and telling her she's going to be fine would the best thing for that.

"So honey, what should we name our daughter?" "I don't know dear. You choose, after all she wouldn't be here if it wasn't for your amazing Johnson." "Wait a minute..."

Pfft Amazing Red gets hurt all the time and he never needs 911 called. Why would Red call 911? All he'd do is chokeslam Red.
