I'm a fan of the guy myself, but how did Tyler start getting so popular with the NXT crowd? Was it feuding with the loathsome CJ Parker? Is it the silly OTT gimmick?
Why are the crowd chanting for Breeze when he's not even in the ring?

People like silly gimmicks. That turns into cheers and eventually getting over.

I think he completely embraces and runs with what could be a terrible gimmick in the wrong hands and people like that.

This is why I'm interested in a feud with Adrian Neville. He is now going to be feuding with a fan favorite, rather than someone the fans aren't behind (Parker). The NXT fans (Full Sail/Orlando regulars) kind of take me out of the show sometimes when they cheer/boo the person who is not being presented the way they cheer/boo them. The early indication is that the fans are going to stick with Breeze over Neville based on their reaction to Neville slapping him.
I see this gimmick as something that would have been booed by the typical crowd in the 1980s/early 1990s during the days of WCW Saturday Night and WWF Superstars.

I think he completely embraces and runs with what could be a terrible gimmick in the wrong hands and people like that. This. Same thing's happened with Fandango and the Wyatt Family, all three are kinda goofy gimmicks on paper, but they make them work so, so well.

He's a self(ie) made man
And I like The Moonchild, CJ Parker even though everyone else seems to hate him. WWE need more outside the box gimmicks and he's got one, he'll make an interesting Superstars regular, ocassional Smackdowner, once every 6 month's Raw jobber who gets used on the main shows backstage skits often as comedy fodder (if they return to the variety show format in the future)

A heel with a cartoonish gimmick in front of a crowd like that?

If you have an over the top gimmick and work it well, people are going to be especially into it because there's very few these days.

Also, his character has obvious and clear reasons to do what he does, even if they're silly. He makes sense. Combined with the good performance, that's a recipe for interesting TV.

I certainly don't get it. I think he's good but it's just not the kind of gimmick that makes me want to stand up and say YES, THIS IS WHAT I WANT, THANK YOU WRESTLING!
Apparently, to a lot of people, that's exactly the kind of gimmick it is. I think he's going to get cheered over Neville, becuase for all his excitement in the ring Neville is pretty much devoid of personality.

He entertains people, that's how. There's no secret to it, his gimmick is no better then anyone else's, he's just entertaining.

Full Sail NXT is the same place that got a drama king gimmick and an awkward dancing Diva gimmick over. I'm not surprised that Breeze has got that similar effect with them.

The NXT crowd is awesome and terrible at the same time. On the one hand they're really lively and they are one of the factors that makes the show so great. But on the other hand you could put a midget shitting in a can in the middle of that ring and they'd still cheer like it's The Rock vs Hulk Hogan.
