From what I remember the one's I saw were of a guy falling asleep at the wheel, he flew around the car a good bit but it wasn't "gory" per say and they did say he was ok after. There was another that had a sunroof open and the guy drove up a small hill for some reason that i can't remember and crashed, then a baby seat flew out of the roof. That one seemed kinda fake though.
There WAS a fairly gory set of pictures though if I recall right.

When I took driver's ed in the late 90's, we never watched anything like that.

I remember back in high school, they found some kind of smashed up car, or smashed it up themselves. Stuck a bunch of dummies in it and glued beer bottles into their hands, then shoved them through the broken windshield or half way in the front seat if they were in the back and stuck it in the mall. You don't get friendly looks when you point out, "Yeah, he's dead and all but he did hold onto the beer."
It's meant to scare you, but it's so ridiculously inaccurate it just becomes comical. I remember one of the dummy corpses having a beer in his back pocket. A glass bottle. He was sitting on. Then he was launched into the front seat. Bottle intact.

What's kinda funny is when I was learning to drive a tank in the Army, they would show those same videos.

2001, High School Driver's Ed only showed one. The only part I remember really well (you'll understand why) is a guy who went THROUGH the windshield, skidding on his face for about 1/4 mile. He'd been driving 120 mph and hit into a fire hydrant.
His face was literally shaved down to the bone. A girl in class threw up.

Never saw them in class but I used to work with a guy who was a volunteer fireman and he'd show us the e-mails firemen trade back and forth of accident scenes. They were...they were not pleasant.

They did for my class. We had videos of accident scenes and creepy music.

We had those videos in my class. I don't remember anything gory but I do remember in those videos a weird screaming and our teacher told us that before a person died they would sometime make those noises.

In my drivers ed class we had to watch a video of a man bound with rope between two semis. The semis drive away from each other and stretched the poor bastard until his bones popped and blood flew everywhere. I've been traumatized by the video and terrified of getting my license for years!

We had slides of accident victims. The filmstrip was broken a couple years before. Yes, I'm old.

My drivers ed was pretty tame. it wasn't until the "substance abuse" day of Health Class when they busted out the pictures of burnt corpses, splattered skulls and meth mouth.

Beavis & Butt-head enjoyed them, that's for sure.
Personally, I don't think they do, because "Scared Straight" isn't at all that effective. You're better off using a "Fried Frog" method with that idea.

We watched some of that stuff in regular school. Charming.
Did you know that every time you are in, around or merely thinking about cars that there's a 0% chance that you can remain alive?

I did get one when I took driver's ed, but it was still pictures instead of film footage and I'm not 100% sure they were shots of real accidents or fakes (if they were fake, they were good enough to look real though). Honestly I'm not sure what the point of it is. You just end up being shocked by what you see and so you don't concentrate on the actual safety tips. Besides, the whole purpose of driver's ed is to teach people how to drive safely and responsibly in the first place. Watching this stuff won't make people better drivers, it doesn't teach anything, all it achieves is grossing people out. People already know that breaking the traffic can have deadly consequences, so is the logic that people will be more careful if they think their corpse won't be as pretty as they might have expected? Never saw them in class but I used to work with a guy who was a volunteer fireman and he'd show us the e-mails firemen trade back and forth of accident scenes. They were...they were not pleasant. You know, I have a lot of respect for firemen but... seriously? Some of them TRADE accident scenes pictures?!

Never took a drivers ed class. The company I work for requires a defensive driving class and there is nothing gruesome about the video, in fact it is more funny than anything. When I was in EMT class our textbook had some lovely pictures but those all related to what was being taught. For instance when it talked about how to deal with amputations there was this lovely picture of someone whose legs had been ran over by a train. Thing is that if you are going to be an EMT you kind of have to have the stomach for it and so none of the pictures ever really bothered anyone. In fact one class we spent a bit of time watching videos of people breaking their legs. Of course Sid's leg break was one of the ones featured.
