Has The Rock Ever Put Anyone Over Since He Left?

It just seems like a lot of his promos, from La Resistance to Billy Gunn to CM Punk to John Cena, The Rock did put people over like HHH when he was a full-time superstar but to be honest when he's come back to do his appearances, he just seems to bury people, I still think The Rock is probably one of the most charismatic people in pro wrestling history and he's certainly in the top three of best promo cutters in the business but would it kill him to show the crowd that his opponents were on his level.

Okay, La Resistance I understand but you've got to put people like Cena, Bryan and Punk over Dwayne.

I'd rather watch The Rock vs. Daniel Bryan/Cody Rhodes/The Miz than see a "dream match" against someone who doesn't need the rub.

I thought he put over Punk well enough. It didn't matter that he beat him, but the fact he did push him up to his level. He verbally put over Punk as being one of the talented and dangerous guys today, and sold the GTS like hell.

I think Punk's reign was prolonged further because of The Rock. Or else Punk would've dropped it at Survivor Series or at Night of Champions.

Honestly, this. Rock's goal with this return was never to put over the new generation. It was to draw big money with Cena and Punk. No more, no less.

He passed the torch to Cena which John was already in possession of for about eight years by that point. So safe to say, he made Cena that night.

What do you mean "since he left?". Are you referring to the time he left in 2004, after losing a tag match (I guess he wasn't pinned so he was being selfish) and sporadically coming back to promote something. Are you saying that during all those initial appearances, he should have laid down for someone?

Since he started wrestling...he had what? 5 or 6 matches? A record of 5 and 1 isn't exactly super impressive, especially when it's supposed to build towards Cena getting the biggest win of his career (kayfabe).

I don't get why the fans or even WWE ripped the guy as if he turned his back. The guy almost always did business and put guys over to an extent. You'll be hard pressed to find many people who have anything negative to say about Rock, or that he used his stroke to go over guys. Most people who complain, are people who wanted to work with him well after the fact he left, like Cena, or hold contempt over him such as Triple H who probably wished he was that over.

I'd say if that's how you treat a former major star, I think Rock is more than entitled to negotiate how he wants to do things when he returns. And to be fair, I thought he did a good job. A tag match, showed that he could still go, going over Cena originally WAS pretty shocking and as much as I loathe the idea of a rematch, at least it made sense to do that here. His matches with Punk were fine and it's not like he did anything to diminish the WWE title, and he eventually put Cena over. That is a reasonable deal, if you ask me, considering the status that Rock is at. Now, you get someone on the level of say...Kevin Nash and did the same thing, it would be questionable at best. Hell, I didn't see a need for a return, but if any fan wanted one, and then complained it didn't go the way they wanted...I don't know what to tell him. The Rock would do the job if you wanted him to, but it wouldn't give much credence if what the end game was, was a major Cena win. Sometimes, you need to protect your wins and losses, otherwise it's just not very impressive when someone beats you. I'm specifically referring to a Jericho or a Foley. On the flip side of things, you don't need to be so paranoid about losing, that you never lose, especially in times when you should, such as Triple H or nWo Hogan. With Rock, I never got that feel. It was a mere handful of matches, where he didn't outright squash anyone.

And it's SO easy. Any time he had a one on one interaction with someone in the back and would essentially say "I like what you're doing" or "I've seen you doing this..", that can go leagues to help someone. If the f***in' Rock is paying attention to you, perhaps the fans should too, right?

That's certainly better than losing a match due to "exhaustion" or cutting a scathing promo right after losing a handicapped match, about how you can't get the job done *wink wink*.

Putting someone over doesn't start or end with losing a match to them.

Cut a promo telling CM Punk that he was one of if not the best champion of modern times, say he NEEDS to beat John Cena to cement his legacy as a great himself by going over 3 generations of the BEST wrestlers of their generations, put The Shield over by being attacked by them and not getting a hand up to defend himself, put R-Truth over by selling his offense like death in the tag match...

Honestly, The Rock is one of the few guys in pro-wrestling to -in winning or losing- make every competitor look like a threat to his life & standing, people don't seem to be able to understand that determined wrestler Rock is the other side of the coin as catchphrase fan drawer Rock. Just because he makes jokes (which get desired reactions) doesn't mean he doesn't go from those to serious subjects.

He does what 90% of wrestlers can't, he puts over wrestling (and all wrestlers he faces) as a dangerous competitive sport, whilst managing to entertain people through various levels of humour.

I doubt Rock cared about whether he won or lost in his recent matches. He's always been like Jericho, won some, lost even more. Other than some brief periods during his title pushes.

To be fair, while the Hurricane did beat the rock, his win came via interference by Austin after pretty much getting his ass kicked for the majority of the match. Let's not pretend that the Rock lost clean to the Hurrichokeslam.
