I like four - the main title, a secondary title, the tag titles and a women's title if there's a women's division.

I'd like to see them bring back some sort of ranking system instead of creating more titles, but that would actually mean you'd have to re-train fans into thinking wins and losses actually matter.
Have a couple of tournaments, stage an annual battle royal, do something to give reasons why so-and-so deserves a shot at a title besides, "he's over with the fans". Too many times, you see a guy lose to the secondary champion, yet for some reason he's the #1 contender for the World/Company-wide belt.

I keep saying this lately because these threads keep popping up in the wake of the recent unification in WWE...
It's not the quantity of belts that is an issue; it's how they're booked, which is a huge issue.
A company could have eight champions and no one would scoff at it if the champions were booked as being legit. Don't use midcard champions as fodder for guys in the main event scene. Midcard champions need to be in decent feuds with guys that are at their "level." It's not as hard as it seems. They have a prop (the belt), and their feuds should be focused on the desire to hold that title (that's Wrestling 101).

I'd like a world champion, tag champions, cruiser champion(complete with lucha/puro influences) and women's champion(if there's a strong division).
This forces creative to actually come up with angles instead of "Big E. has the IC title, let's just have someone randomly challenge him because he has a title."

As long as every title has a storyline and contenders, then the quantity doesn't matter to me.
