Interrupting bullshit segments. The rising podium of Doom. The gavel. "Can we have some decorum please?" But I'm afraid I've got some BAD NEWS." Dat accent. JBL; "I love that guy!"
My favourite thing in WWE right now.

My favourite thing in WWE right now. There was nothing wrong with the gimmick it just needed more podium more gavel and more bad news.

Yes, a few house show reports mentioned him getting a win or two.

He's one of those guys who is almost wasted as a wrestler. I mean, as a wrestler he's just 'a guy'. As a manager or commentator he could be awesome. It's one of those situations where being a wrestler actually hampers him. He could be damn amazing as arrogant-penis British manager or uber heel commentator who everyone hates but secretly finds quite entertaining.
It could be best for his career if he never really wrestled again outside spot-appearances and house shows.

His gimmick on the podium is funny
But if you're looking forward to him winning matches, I've got bad news.

And how does being a wrestler hamper him? If he has an awesome personality, why can't his arrogance and ability to entertain be used as a facet of his WRESTLING persona. "Congratulations <champion>. You have successfully won/retained your WWE World Heavyweight/Intercontinental Championship in a marvelous performance. But I'm afraid I have some BAD NEWS. Your days as champion are numbered, for I desire to vanquish you for your title and take it for myself."

A PPV main event in 7? What's the point? That guy has a voice and ability to use it. His best place is as a manager or behind the commentary desk.

A voice and an ability to use it doesn't always translate to the commentary table. Look at the guy in my sig. Alex Riley a great talker with lots of energy, but he's an ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE commentator. But he has the charisma to play a great wrestling character if given the proper opportunity. Likewise with Barrett. Bad News Barrett is great. Using this gimmick as a wrestler will set him apart from the other wrestlers and he won't be "just a guy". I agree that personalities should not be neutered, but putting Barrett in a manager or commentary role would be doing exactly that.

It's one of those kinds of gimmicks guys get when creative has run out of ideas.

I've said this a gajillion times but I might as well say it here:
Why on EARTH is he not basically the Authority's stooge telling faces about the matches they've been put in? In the same way he appears at the end of the JBL and Cole show?
That would do a WHOLE lot more for him and I am someone who likes the way they're doing the gimmick now.

They should just ditch Brad Maddox, who's entire presence in WWE has never been explained, and give the role of GM to Bad News Barrett.
