I will say this, though, on the "brighter and softer" Marvel criticisms: sure, the Age of Ultron roll-out seems to show Joss Whedon defintely overplayed his hand with the snark this time, and I'm not even looking forward to Ant-Man, but Marvel's already shown a willingness to go dark with the Daredevil series (a style I imagine the rest of the Defenders series will follow). On that same note, both Marvel and FOX (with Winter Soldier and Days of Future Past, respectively) have shown they can do big-stakes action without the gloomy, no-fun-allowed air that Dawn of Justice has. Oh of course. I'm over the moon that the Russo's are taking over Avengers now. Winter Soldier and Daredevil are the best things Marvel has done as complete packages. Its just that a lot of the stuff they put out is put through a huge "Uh whatever, dude" filter and it can get tiring at times.

What has taken Marvel a decade to do, DC is trying to do in less than half the time. Trying to jump right into your own cinematic universe with this little of a set up is a tall task.
I hope it works, but Marvel has set such a high standard. Even Marvel's side movies/shows have been ok-great

Problem is, Snyder ain't Nolan and Superman ain't Batman. That said, the movie still has a lot of potential, and could end up being amazing. They could definitely tone down on the Jesus imagery, tho.

I like the Jesus imagery with Superman.
He SHOULD look like a savior. That's why some people view him as a god and others reject him.

I noticed that when it shows the soldiers kneeling whilst Supes walks down a corridor, they all had patches with his logo on. So I'm wondering if maybe they're cribbing Injustice and Supes has a regime going? I'm betting it's more like a militia that's actually unaffiliated with him, but takes him for "inspiration". I really see this shaping up as people looking at Supes as a savior at first, and him being really uncomfortable with that. Then Luthor manipulates public opinion, including Batman to make it look like Kal El is something to be feared.

I've been waiting to see Batman and Superman on screen together since I was 4 years old. After seeing that trailer, I'd be willing to wait another 26 years. Zack Snyder made it known years ago that he wanted to make The Dark Knight Returns into a film, but he couldn't because Christopher Nolan was right in the middle of his Batman saga. So he opted for his second favorite comic mini-series, Watchmen. Years later he does what I consider to be a decent Superman film with an outstanding actor in the lead role. The end of Man of Steel with Clark in the glasses at the Daily Planet with the uplifting music left me hopeful that the darkest stuff was behind us and we'd get to see Henry Cavill embark on a series of Superman films more akin to the tone Marvel has set with Steve Rogers. Then Batman became free game. As soon as Zack Snyder was able to get his mits on Batman, he immediately jumped back to The Dark Knight Returns and is trying to force that narrative into his universe established in Man of Steel. I hate it.

Not a fan of the blatent symbolism but, nothing in that trailer seems to bother me that much. I'm going into this with very low expectations, though. I hope that I'll come away surprised.

Yeah, Angry Joe is starting to get a little annoying with all his Superman worship.

Can someone who reads DC comics explain how Batman vs Superman is a must-see fight with an unpredictable winner?
Superman is nearly a god, Batman is a regular guy... a very smart, tough as hell guy but still, just a guy. One punch from Superman should send Batman sailing into orbit.
I am looking forward to the movie btw, I just can't see how we're supposed to believe Batman can last 5 seconds with Superman.

All he has to do is prepare and he can beat everyone. If written correctly, it can be a really intriguing idea though. Partially because it IS a regular guy literally trying to stand toe to toe with a god. With his resources and intelligence, it's interesting to see some of the ideas that people have come up with for him to stand a chance against Superman over the years. Some that go far beyond the childish "DERHUR, Batman cool, Superman dumb" mentality. Naturally in most situations it should end the same, Batman exhausting his bag of tricks and Superman proving his superiority without being a complete dick about it.

I agree with the Cracked writer who presented a pretty good way to do this: Have someone appropriating Kryptonian tech. This leads to Supes coming to Gotham, and Batman being... Batman says, hell no, this is MY city. Ignoring the other aspects, and have Wonder Woman step in, and smack them down/warn them of the impending thread of Lex, or whoever it is, using the tech for EVUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUL.

Some that go far beyond the childish "DERHUR, Batman cool, Superman dumb" mentality. Naturally in most situations it should end the same, Batman exhausting his bag of tricks and Superman proving his superiority without being a complete dick about it. One example I can think of showing some reasonable ways of Batman vs. Superman was in the game Injustice: Gods Among Us. I'll spoiler just in case someone browsing here hasn't played the game and wants to. {Spoiler}Well, first off it's alternate universe, where after accidentally killing Lois because he was made to think she was Doomsday and because of a device implanted in Lois, a nuke destroyed Metropolis...Superman goes powerful ruler mode. Batman becomes the resistance leader against this.
Batman gathers a pool of people, and manages to steal some Kryptonian serum that enhances the strength and durability of people, giving it to his allies.
Even with all this, a secret insider in Luthor, and calling some help from what would be the prime dimension...Batman runs out of options, forcing Prime Dimension Batman to realize that the only one that can stop "evil" Superman is...prime universe Superman. That worked for me as it showed Batman can try to win, but even with planning can't always do so, and knows when he needs help.

I don't buy the planning argument. All the planning in the world can't help against a guy who just has to flick Batman to shatter him into pieces or fly a few miles into the air to escape.
Then again "the guy who plans for everything" trope annoys me because I find it too unrealistic that someone can plan for every little eventuality and event.

Bats not only has never won agaisnt Supes one-on-one, it's very debatable if he ever realy won in any of the fights they had in any of the multiverses, especially since they are BFF's in most of them and Supes would never go all out (even comparing to his normal "world of cardboard" thing) against his best friend.
If anything this could be fun because this might be the first time in any medium (someone please correct me if I'm wrong on this account) that they will have a major one-on-one battle (at least for now) in which they weren't friends before.

Red Son they weren't friends. They didn't interact much at all till they were enemies.
