It still sucks.
Not as much as I remembered, but it was still pretty bad.
The whole first half of the Rumble match was actually okay. I still enjoy Punk cutting promos while waiting on other challengers, Beth Phoenix appearing in the Rumble, and I still find Matt Hardy's quick elimination funny.
Then HBK (and then Cena) arrives eliminating everyone else and it all goes downhill from here. Unnecessary quick elimination after another (Out of the last 10 entrants in the Rumble, only Edge and Batista made it past 5 minutes), everyone except Edge, HBK and Cena looked like pushovers, and things that should have been surprising (R-Truth eliminating Big Show and Henry, most notably) is overshadowed, by, well, being eliminated quickly. Oh, and that HBK moment where he kicks a referee. I also thought that was dumb. I think I'm gonna nickname this the Second-Half Jobber Rumble.
So...yeah, I still hate this Rumble to this day. Felt like they really half-assed it. It makes the unnecessary entrants in the 2012 Rumble look really tame by comparison.

I remember it fondly because of the start..but you're right. I actually forgot who even won the thing until this thread.

Oh yeah how could I forget this big dollop of horsecrap?
The previous years they would have guys like Mike Knox and Finlay lasting about 40 minutes but in 2010 everyone seemed to have ring times of aboout 60s and if they were lucky 3 minutes. It was a big let down and killed the concept of the match when you knew there was no chance of the ring filling up. 2011 was gimmicky and 2012 was jobber heaven 2013 was better let's hope they give everyone some decent times this year.

That rumble was kind of bad, wasn't it? The only thing I remember was HBK's tremendous elimination and his selling of it.

The one thing I remember about that Rumble was that there were only 3 ECW superstars in the match (Yoshi, Benjamin and Ryder) and all three were eliminated within 60 seconds of entering.
Apart from the Punk angle and the HBK storyline continuation, that Rumble match sucked. Anyone who says Edge's return was a surprise is lying.

Everything until Punk was eliminated was golden and HBK eliminating HHH was also great. Then it went to hell. Possibly the worst end to the match (aside from HBK's meltdown) since 1989. I don't get why guys like Kofi Kingston lasted less than 5 minutes after just coming off his huge hot angle with Orton. It was here when I was like "Ah... so much for the Kofi push."

This was my first time watching wrestling in several years, and I remember this being the moment I became a Punk mark, as he pleaded with everyone to change their lives, finally getting frustrated and giving up and hitting Ryder with a mic.

All I remember about this Rumble is Punk being awesome, then Triple H came out and the fun ended.

horrible rumble. too quick of eliminations, and intervals seemed rushed and short. They weren't all 90 seconds. 09 was bad too. too many people at once. In terms of booking, pace, comedy, entry order and spots, I think the 2012 Rumble should be the model. If it had more star power, I think it could have been great rather than meh.

To me 2012 had too much comedy. 2007 and 2008 were awesome for a having a bit of everything. The rings filled up nicely with guys mixing it up with more than just 2 or 3 different wrestlers throughout the match.

Edge is possibly the most pointless Rumble winner ever. He didn't main event that Mania or was part in the 2nd most important match of the show, he lost the match, his program ended with Jericho shortly after because of Swagger/Heel Turn/Drafted to Raw. Plus everyone knew he was coming back. It's not like 2008 Cena's Rumble return.

I'm a huge fan of the Rumble and tend to find each of them fun and re-watchable (some more than others). That said, even the best ones have a flaw or two.
Let's take the 2007 Rumble, for example. That's one of favorite and, to this day, has one of the best endings thanks to Undertaker and Shawn Michaels. However, a lot of people point to Khali's eliminations as a major flaw. The 2012 Rumble also was fun, but it definitely had too many jobbers and filler. Lawler, Booker and even Cole were weird, although I don't blame WWE for saying that anyone can participate in the Rumble, including announcers. I also didn't like Miz, Cody and Ziggler all being unceremoniously eliminated despite their good showings.

HBK's elimination was awkward it looked like a botch with Batista reaching to pull him back in.

No love for HBK eliminating HHH with a hell of a superkick outtanowhere? I agree all midcarders did look terrible, but I did enjoy the interactions between Cena, HBK, HHH, Batista, Edge, Jericho and thought they all worked well together etc (but with the amount they have/had worked together over the years it's all second nature to that group anyway). So it's a give and take with me. Punks part as already said is great. So for me it isn't the worst one ever. Infact if we are talking recent(ish) history I feel the 2009 one is overrated. Yes, it had the mark out moments of Cena returning, HBK/Taker starting, Piper/Snuka but the cameras miss eliminations/significant spots due to terrible direction/camera work (and then not thinking for the old garden set up how they would need to have more camera angles ready because it is not a normal singles match in the garden facing the hard camera in the center). To add to that problem the ring was overflowing (the complete opposite of 2010 in other words) to the point where you don't know what is going on at all (I believe there is a happy medium between too many and too little in the ring at once throughout the match, they have hit it right before but not all the time). Both these making it extremely hard to watch, even though I like the mark out moments, but even then 01/02/03/04/05/07 had a more consistent pace and more mark out moments so I am more than likely going to watch them over 2010 or 2008.

Yeah, the 2010 one was pretty bad. Really, I'd say the best ones in recent memory are 2005, 2008, and 2011. And 2011's has the issue where New Nexus slowed it to a complete crawl and basically rendered the first half of the match pointless by easily eliminating everyone.

I didn't like it either. I thought the Punk subplot was really dumb as well. In fact, if that hadn't even happened it would have been better.

I think all the fast eliminations were a response to 2009, where IMO the Rumble really dragged with too many people staying in TOO long.

I can see why people would say that. The thing is though it was a LONG time that they had a Rumble with that many guys in at once. It was dumb of them not to throw people out more frequently once the ring had 10+ guys in there.
