So I want to buy a tablet so I can read comics electronically on the train without having to squint at my phone screen.
I shall also use it to listen to music, watch tv and probably to read books, replacing my Kindle.
I don't want an iPad. I don't get on with Apple products.

If something happened to my beloved DOPO (that I bought on Newegg in June 2012 for the then bargain basement price of $100) looking on Newegg I would probably replace it with this: www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834686016HDMI is a secret weapon that can make a tablet much more than a tablet. EDIT: Changed link, didn't notice exorbitant shipping/third party seller.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 32 gig and I'm happy with it.

Google Nexus. Love mine, syncs so easily with my phone and such. Great piece of tech and the newer one is better than mine.

I can say do not get the Google Nexus 7.
Had it for a couple of weeks and then the thing refused to hold charge and when the battery died, it died. Had to google different ways to reset it and get it to charge. When I'm at my mums house I can use her iPad to play games for hours without charging. Nexus 7 gets to low battery after half an hour and then when you plug it in, it charges slower than the battery depletes.
It's been sent away for about a month and a half now to be fixed and I still haven't heard anything.

I am sorry yours sucked, but it means yours was bad, not all of them.

One of my housemates had the exact same experience with it but the other one has had hers for about two years and it's been fine. From my googling it seems to be quite a common fault and when I took it back to the store the woman pretty much already knew what I was there for.

Blackberry Playbook. Awesome tablet. Buy yourself the HDMI lead and you have yourself a fantastic tablet, movie player and all-round media device. If I have one complaint, it's that at 7" , it's a little hard to read my electronic comics on it. That being said, it's a fantastic bit of kit.......

I use a GoogleNexus7 and it works pretty well. I generally read it in landscape mode and scroll down or use guided view (i like the compact size of the Nexus7 for traveling on the subway and stuff). You may want to shoot for a 10" though if you want to read everything in portrait mode.
Comixology has a ton of great deals too. I read a LOT of comics digitally and generally have zero problems with them. I also think its interesting that a lot of colorists will color digitally, then send it to the printer. Reading those digitally just makes more sense to me, but I still have about a dozen books a pull from my LCS too.

I have the Nook HD. Pretty much is a Nexus but cheaper.
But yeah you should be fine with several different Android tablets.

I'm swaying towards the Samsung Tab 3 with the 8" screen.
Good pocket size, but slightly bigger than a 7" which I've been told by several people is still marginally too small for reading my comics.
The Sony is still my favourite though, just because it looks so nice

I read my comics on a 7inch, it is no problem. You can magnify or use guide mode.

This is one of those times when the internet is not a boon to my shopping.
The loss of shops I can go and see these things in is really detrimental to my decision making

The video and sound are great too. I have to add that the size is perfect if you carry a purse or shove it into the pocket of a sweatshirt. I should be getting royalties for every time I've raved about it to people.

Amazon sells 1st gen Kindle Fires for $70. Screen size is small for comics but that's the best cheap option.

Others have tiny text which require the zoom. It really all comes down to how the text looks.
