I wish they gave the Clem gimmick to a NXT guy that could actually run with it, instead of wasting it on a guy that didn't need it The thing about the Clem stuff is that it's never going to be on NXT, never mind television. Heck, NOTHING to do with the JBL and Cole Show gets on TV and even if it does, it doesn't come anywhere near as good (Bad News Barrett, as much as he has taken to it like a duck in water) so I really don't see the harm in it. I would argue it'd be WORSE on an NXT guy because considering the show's format and such, it's not really something that would help a guy in developmental get any more experience or such. I'd rather an NXT guy get to develop their first actual gimmick rather than juggle two. Also, no joke, Heath Slater turned a character that could have been the dumbest payoffs ever into an amazing one. He's always been charismatic as all hell but, man, he's just the biggest dork and I love it. Have Clem be the actual gimmick for a guy. The bumbling southern gent. Good midcard gimmick

Clem Layfield could've easily been an opportunity for someone to practice working with a character or showcasing a personality that they wouldn't have gotten to do otherwise. That could've been someone else's chance to take the ball and run with it.

That could've been someone else's chance to take the ball and run with it. Even then, do you really trust the writers of WWE to make that a reasonably good gimmick that didn't grate by the second or third week? As much as I love what's going on at NXT, I would barely trust them. What makes the Clem Layfield gimmick work is that it works in this really crazy small subsection universe of WWE. If it got any bigger and more hands got on it, I don't know if it would have the simplicity and joy of it. Also, do you really want to sign a guy just to say to them 'Hey, you're JBL's dimwitted fake nephew. If it doesn't work, you're screwed'? Because that's what would happen.

Okay, now this is happening in the JBL and Cole Show thread.....
ANYWAY.
At what point do we stop seeing Clem Layfield as Heath Slater playing Clem, and start seeing Clem Layfield as playing the character Heath Slater? Because I think its happening for me. I mean kayfabe-wise, this could have been the case all along!

Okay, now this is happening in the JBL and Cole Show thread..... Yeah, this probably isn't the best venue for booking debates.

Clem doing the Texas two step in the hall was hilarious. Also, how dare Cody try to cheat on his wife with his wife.

I would watch the hell out of a Cody and Bad News buddy sitcom on the Network.
And everyone loving Clem Layfield was fantastic.
Huge Ron Bass and Mike Rotundo return confirmed.

So, I figure I'll mention it here, I put up a CAW of Clem for 2K14 on the 360 if anyone wants to give that a look.

If I had all the money in the world, I would hire Bad News Barrett and Cody Rhodes to improvise daily five-minute skits for my personal amusement.
